I’m in the market for a new portable flip over. I’m looking at the Otter Resort Flip over. Mainly looking at the resort because I can pull one of the seats out and have room for the pup if he goes along. With the Smaller otters i don’t think he will fit with the seat base. So if I stay with Otter (which I would prefer) I’m stuck with the Resort.
My question is how big of kite does the resort become in the wind? How does the thermal shell work in bright skies when sight fishing? With the hyfax kit installed would i be able pull the shack along pavement with an ATV?

I’ve fished out of a resort almost exclusively for the last 4 years. I haven’t noticed ANY issues with instability in the wind. Once set up the Resort is rock solid. Last winter in January Joel and I fished on Lake of the Woods in 40 mph winds in my resort… no issues.

You’ll have more light blocking capability with the new thermal shell than the older style shells due to the multiple layers of shell sandwiching the insulation.

Yes. Would I make a habit of doing it every day or many miles at a crack? Nope. You’re going to wear the heck out of your hyfax. But with hyfax installed your otter tub will be fine going across gravel, asphalt or cement for a reasonable distance.

I live about a half mile from the lake. I would like to pull it from there expecially weighing in at 180 pounds that would be a pain lifting in and out of a vehicle by my self.

Just as a point of reference I log 780 – 900+ tow miles with my resort each season based on the odometer on my sled and I’ve not had ANY noticeable signs of excessive wear at the end of the season. Stick to the shoulders, avoid long stretches on dry concrete or tar and you’ll be fine.

This type of rough use is why we buy otters in the first place.

Something else to keep in mind is speed. I don’t remember where I read it or heard it but you want to stay under 10 mph when you are not on ice or show. I have a small ultra wide with the hifax kit I use on my property to haul dirt, manure, wood, fencing supplies, yard and farm tools just about anything. Not nearly as many miles as James does in a year with his but grass, weeds, brush, gravel, and rock do little harm to it as long as I keep my speed down.
