Well I just got my last Otter Lodge together, now looking into lights for it. I would like to set up some kind of light system. What are some to look at or stay away from? I am hard on my equipment so I need something that will last most or all of the season.

Hi Jmarksman, if you want something durable I would look into led lighting, they are tough and low energy consumpyion and are not affected by the cold. Just google “portable led lighting” and you will have l kinds to choose from. I have a lantern style with 20 led’s that I can hang in my portable shack plus I use it year round for other types of fishing and I love it, the batteries last an unbelievable long time.
November 19, 2011 at 9:42 pm #1010497Im looking at getting the Frabill Led light bar, but have know advice on it. Just looks like a neat option. It would strap around your slide bars, & the four lights pivot individually for your desire.

I think they are the Best Hong Kong lights. But if you buy them from the folks above they are at least local and have a phone number for you to call that’s in the 302 area code.
I have the Best Hong Kong lights and there aren’t any lights that can compare. They are super bright. You won’t be disappointed by them.
November 20, 2011 at 12:01 am #1010526Thanks guys! They are what I had in mind, I went to my local stores after them today and found nothing of the sort. I need to do some ordering now.

O yes there are lights that compare, in fact better. I’ve had the BHK lights and the ones I sent the PM’s about( google HSO firebright lights). BHK’s quality is trash and if you have a problem, good luck. They charged my credit card twice and I wasn’t able to get a refund from them…

I own both. The HSO (bought from Craigslist) are the BHK. I am against buying anything from HSO because of the way they hack people posts to point them to their online store. Especially withr the way they actually edit and modify your posts and rewrite them. What site does that? Should be illegal. CNN would get sued if they did that.
November 20, 2011 at 2:06 am #1010559That’s the reason I didn’t want to post their lights on the forum. I’ve owned both too, the HSO lights are heavier guage wire then the BHK lights.
sandmanndPosts: 928November 20, 2011 at 2:17 am #1010561I’ve had he BHK lights for four years now with no problems. I haven’t seen the HSO lights but know Trav well enough to take his word on them. Only thing, I’ll be damned if I would put one silver dime in the pocket of that site…..EVER!!!
November 20, 2011 at 1:00 pm #1010589I bought a led light bar form Harbor Fright for $10 on sale that works great. I just need to find a way to mount it.
November 20, 2011 at 2:44 pm #1010605I have been using the clam light sticks,I have 2 of them they usually hold a charge for 2-3 hrs.,these are rechargable units and come with cables to plug in to any 12 volt source.

There is an option to, Im heading to Duluth this week I’m going to swing in HF. Mounting it to my shelter I can always come up with something that will work.
November 21, 2011 at 2:04 am #1010744I use marine led lights from Cabalas. I run six of the four inchers on the top bars inside my fish house. I hardwired them in and run them on a vexilar battery. They are the best setup by far. The lights have a ten year warranty. The lights run around $10 each. I have never had a problem and they will run for weeks as I forgot to turn them off once or twice I have run this setup for about six years now and love it
November 21, 2011 at 2:16 am #1010748I have ran the frabill light bar last season and am really happy with it. It has 4 lights that you can direct to any direction and in my scout as well as a fish trap guide and yukon really light up the areas i want it to.

I was just check these out to. I dont know why it never came to mind?? I have them on both sides of my boat LOL!
November 28, 2011 at 1:03 am #1012544Broman, the HSO LED lights are not the BHK lights. These are made by another company and sold by the OPS>
I helped lined these up for the store so I am aware of where they came from.
Respectfully, not BHK LED lights even if they look like them. They are better quality all the way. The HBK are not even in the same leaque as those other ones.
Then, if you have an issue with a HBK light, good luck with any warranty.
Just a little note to let others know the difference and what can happen if you do ,business with BHK.
many have been burned by BHK and that is why I got these in the Outdoor pro Store for ice fisherman so they could purchase a high quality, bright light string and not have to worry about any warranty issues if needed.
November 28, 2011 at 5:29 pm #1012717I was going to look at marine rope lighting from the big c, rigging one in the portable and maybe the perm. then use them in the boat in the summer. anyone used these?
