Building a permanent shack. I will have a generator. It will be an 8 X 12 house. Wondering what others are using for heat source. Forced air wall unit or baseboard heat. If there are other suggestions, feel free. We want to keep it electric. Thanks in advance.

We use those stand-up oil filled radiator type heaters a lot in our cabin. Likely not what you were looking for but I cant imagine it not working if well insulated. They offer very consistent heat but take a long time to heat up.

How much gasoline are you planning to haul out on the ice to run your generator? How many watts does your generator produce? For an 8 x 12 I would recommend no less than a 20,000 btu gas furnace. I believe that converts to something like 6000 watts.

If your shack is tall enough use the ceiling hanger heaters. They will keep the heaters out of the way. Also less likely to touch the heater with your line. Even in a big shack like that you will always wish you had more room. Bigger shack means more people that will want to fish with you.

Electric heat is not a very viable option. Electric heaters take lots of watts to make heat. I believe one of those bathroom heaters our parents had when we were all kids we about 1800 watts.

Watch Menards and Fleet Farm add for the wall mount propane heaters. They should run about $150. We have one in our 10×20. Its is very efficient and recovers quickly. We logged lots of hours last winter and used just over a 100# cyl.

Use the generator for lights and a ceiling fan and you will be money ahead.
