Just a reminder to set those DVRs…

Our second show for the 2011 season airs on Fox Sports North @ 8 AM. The show this week is “Bladebait Walleyes” from Lake Winnipeg. Absolutely DO NOT tune into this show if you don’t like watching big walleyes come through holes in the ice.

Here’s some of the “stars” from that shoot out on Winnipeg. Cal has me hooked on Greenbacks!

I have been a fan of “greenbacks” for a while. These pictures just don’t do justice to those walleyes. I cannot imagine the 12lb-14lbers that are caught each winter. Talk about freaks. Another reason this has become an annual ice fishing destination for me.

Those blades look big. Were you using 1/2 oz blades for that shoot? I got a load of them, but I never have used them. Seem to be too big most of the time.

We couldn’t get too big on this trip. The blades in the pic are 1/4 oz. Fish were caught on 1/2 oz. and the fish didn’t seem to care about the added size one bit. The only reason I stuck with the 1/4 Oz. was because I didn’t have any in that color in the larger sizes.

I just added the video to the system. It will post here online inside of an hour. I know it isn’t much of a sneak peek but for some of the night owls might enjoy a look. Sure beats counting sheep anyway.

    NICE job Cal and James!

Cal, I know you fish up there frequently, have you noticed more lost fish because of the barb-less regulation up there?

I see there was a greeny that came of when you and James had that double.

Those colors were amazing. The one James talked about looking like reptile skin look iridescent. Very cool.

Fishing barbless will not cost you a fish. Steady preasure is the key. You will lose fish by bumping their heads on the bottom of the hole with 4ft. of ice though.

Lake Winnipeg is shaping up to have a great ice season this year. Lots of bait in the south Basin of the lake. I should be ice fishing in a couple of weeks or so, and will post reports.

I have not lost many fish because of barbless hooks, like Lee mentioned hitting the bottom of the ice has caused me to loose more. In a perfect world a guy can lug a 10 in auger around and then putting fish on the ice increases, but drilling threw 40 inches is tough with 10 in drill.
