Lure Box suggestions

I have the old fashion metal fly box that I use to hold my ice fishing jigs. I am looking to up grade as the metal is not holding my lures in and that i am “over crowding” like a prison like the pic shows. I don’t have many bigger jigs like spoons, but do have a couple. I must have diamond heads, ratfinkies, etc. Any suggestions on boxes, fly boxes, etc? These fell out just getting out of the ice rod bag. Can you see the frustration! Thanks for the suggestions…

I put the smaller size gill pills and diamond jigs in my rose creek and they stay in place.

Just sent a dozen old boxes I’ve tied to a sportsmans auction. Finally settled on a Flambeau large blue ribbon fly box 3936cr.One side is like the rose creek, the other side has well devided secure compartments.I don’t take everything I own on the ice every day.My inventory stays in the truck. But this box holds a lot mine is often only half full.A bit pricey @ around $30 but I love mine.

What me and my buddies have done is when we find a box that is the size of our liking we glue in some soft foam, not the stuff for construction but what you may find in packing materials. we use the larger sheet size so we can cut it to fit the box completely. This way you can put your jigs etc any where you want and as close togther as you want. I have a approx. 6X8 box about an 1-2/2 deep with foam on boothside. I have over a hundred jigs in there with oom for alot more. The jigs come out and go easily. The bonus is the box I use was free and so was the foam.

Just put a small Thill in my box.It takes one whole compartment.Box does come in a XL size.I’m a spring bobber guy so I only carry one or two bobbers.Minnows are about all I use a float for. There are 12 compartments so you have plenty of room for jigs with 2 or 4 floats.I really like how secure the latch is.

Hands Down the Rose Creek Box has been the best lure box I have seen. I was introduced to these boxes here on IDO and over the past several years they have stood the test of time.. I tend to be a bit aggressive with my gear so it needs to hold up under some extreme conditions..

I am about to buy a couple of the Polar Spoon boxes for the Lil Cecils and Slender Spoons that I have been using…

The holding device that they use has yet to loosen up on me and keeps the lures in place..

I like the Bug Luggage fly box’s they hold small jigs just fine and just shy of 200 in a pocket size box.

You might look at the Clam Ice Armor boxes. Well made and one side is for ice jigs and the other holds split shot, small soft plastic bodies, slip bobber stops, ect. Got mine at Cabela’s Item 124-617. I have the small box.

+1. I own 4 or 5 Rose Creek boxes and small jigs ALWAYS fall out, their good for larger jigs though. The clam boxes work perfect for small stuff and tungsten.

Do they hold the smaller jigs? Sometimes I even use just a small plain hook for the days the want a s l o w presentation.

The Rose Creek boxes are sweet. I have had Marmmooskas down to I think a size 14 or 16 hook that stay put. I use mine several other Rose Creek boxes for my open water crappie jigs to 1/16 ounce and down to a size 12 hook on some of the smaller jigs.

Here’s a little trick I use with basically all of the Rose Creek boxes and a couple other brands: I buy some 3/8″ foam padding like you’d find in a fabric store. I cut a piece of it to go between the halves of each box when I close them. This acts as a cushion that prevents sudden jars and bumps from causing the jigs to slip and slip they will if you are pulling your gear behind a sled or atv. Just riding in the back of a truck can be the start of unhappiness with any kind of fly-type box used for either ice jigs or small open water jigs. The tangles are one thing, but the knocking against one another is another cause of paint chipping and general wear on jigs in boxes. You pay a lot for the tackle, use a quality box and then go this extra step to keep life really happy.

CT, I really like the foam idea for your rose creek boxes. I personally own a slotted foam fly box for all my smaller ice jigs. Mine has two sides with a decided on a hinge that keeps my jigs on one side and my spoons on another. Never do they touch and they stay put very well. It does float too and that has saved my bacon more than once when I dropped that box down the hole. I know, should have learned not to change the jig over the hole but thankfully I had the floating box. Hope that this helps. Tight lines mate.

Tiny jigs in the rose creek box flop around like a crappie on ice….
