I am with Ryan. Let’s get cold and no snow. The lakes by Detroit Lakes have been a mess for 3 years with too much snow swamping the ice. When its -20 and you drill a hole and water is shooting out 18″ high its not my idea of fun.

By chance are you referencing this element of “Fun” we dealt with last season? I have to chuckle sometimes from a guides perspective. Customer safety always comes first. Catching big fish then follows second. Last year we were hindered severely by our travel conditions. Myself along with our “Search and Destroy” team actually went out at night with just our sleds to compress snow into the slush to lock up an “Ice Highway” for the next mornings venture. Too often last year we awoke to another gift from “Mother Nature” dropping 4-8 inches of fresh stuff so we couldn’t find even the slightest trace of the trail. That was the worst I’ve ever seen it.

Still all things considered we caught as my buddies dad would say when referencing the “Good Ole Days” a Gunny sack of big ones!!

I too men…..Hope for ICE before SNOW.

I love the ice, but I wear shorts until there is snow on the ground. Too early to ice up…I still have some fall walleye crank’n to do

Randy I agree there is more open water to fish. But when it gets cold I hope for a little less snow and a little more cold. It wasn’t much fun for the individual guy to deal with and I can’t imagine having to deal with it all winter as a guide. The time and cost has got to be huge. I might have found a new career. Can’t worry about what hasn’t happened though just have to keep fishing till the ice gets here.

UuugggHHHHHH. That brings back the painful slush nightmare memories of last winter. I really hope we don’t have to fight with that again for the first 4 weeks of the season in 2011.

Same program here, fortunately we don’t HAVE to take someone fishing the next day, so we can wait that next snow out a bit… Every one’s worst nightmare ice fishing, SLUSH!!!

ICE before SNOW would be fantastic, even for the all important snowmobile trails!!!
