Im a college student at UWSP and I’m looking to do some ice fishing this winter. Does anyone know of any good lakes up around the area to ice fish? Mostly looking to catch panfish.

I consider myself quite the expert at fishing the Stevens Point area. It took me seven years to get my four year degree.

For panfish fish the river north of town. There’s a place called the “pipes”. Just ask at a bait shop how to get there. There is usually good panfish and crappies there right now too. There’s a lot of small lakes east and north of Point. Most are about the same for panfish and fish the usual spots like weed lines. Its not too far of a drive to go north to the Tomahawk area for a change too. There is Du Bay too but I never ice fished that much.

When I went there we had an ice fishing show on the college channel and they still run the show all the time.

DuBay can be good, the pipes is always a good area. The Big Eau Pleine used to be good until they let the water level get so low that there was a major fish die off. You can also head south to Castle Rock or Petenwell
