Ice Fishing old millponds

We have a local millpond that we ice fish, apporx 3 – 6′ average depth around 96 square acres and early it is simple to chatch the big gills. There is a main channel that is clear if you can find it and sight fishing is the best. About a month into ice-on, it clouds up from dissolving vegitation and we lose the clearity and the fish. There are springs that feed this pond and some small creeks. Is there something that I should be looking for in a more marshy type of bottom like this that might hold the fish?

Oxygen is the key ingredient to finding feeding fish in the conditions you have described.

The mouth of any creek feeding the pond will have a higher oxygen content than where the pond dumps out. The dying vegetation is a sign of a lack of oxygen/penatrating sun light.

Thanks Brett for the welcome and the answer. That is what I thought but will have to work a little harder to actually find these flowing inlets. It may be a great treat once I find those areas.

    Thank you Ryan,
There are a few areas of fallen or shore trees but these areas in the winter are only a few inches deep but may have weeds that I have not found. I have many areas where actual live weeds may be and it may take a swiss cheese day to see what can be found.
