Hi. You would think with this warm weather we’re having, it’s too early to be talking about winter boots. We’re just planning ahead… because winter will be here soon enough.
With that in mind, we at WorkBootHaven have come up with an idea. We have put together some cold weather boots for your consideration.
They’re listed below in three catagories: Good, Better & Best (IMHO) and also with the expert help we received from Chris Granrud. We feel these boots cover a good range of value and features.
    1. GOOD: The Pinetop Leather PAC
Suede leather upper, all natural hand crafted rubber bottom, 400G Thinsulate Ultra insulation, temp rated -60 F.
“This nice boot will do the trick when the snow gets thick”

    http://www.workboothaven.com/product/283310

    2. BETTER: The legendary ICE KING
This is a very popular winter boot. You’ve probably seen or even worn a pair. Full grain leather upper, hand crafted rubber bottom, 400G Thinsulate Ultra insulation, Trac-lite outsole for superior traction on mud & snow. Temp rating -70 F. “If winter fishin’ is your thing, you should be in the Ice King”

    http://www.workboothaven.com/product/600014

And now (drum roll please)… The BEST. These 2 boots are the masters of their domain.
    3. The Alpha Ice Man
Features 5mm insulating neoprene with Soft Alpha upper shell, high abrasion blown rubber bottom, 400G Thinsulate Ultra insulation, Iceman dual density outsole for supperior traction in cold conditions. Temp rating -80 F.
Chris G. mentioned the toe area wearing out. These boots have high abrasion rubber bottoms to help with wear.
“The Alpha Iceman, if these boots can’t take it – No boot can!”
    http://www.workboothaven.com/product/290134

Now for the BOOT that’s the leader of the PAC!
    The Alpha Ice King
Features 3.5mm neoprene Alpha Soft Shell upper, all natural hand crafted rubber bottom, removable Radiantex liner which reflects heat to the foot while wicking away moisture, 800G Thinsulate Ultra insulation, Alpha Lite outsole featuring uncompromising traction in a lightweight design. Temp rating -80 F. “This is one Bad boot!”
    http://www.workboothaven.com/product/200525

All of these boots feature uncompromising waterproof protection and removable liners.
Well there you have it, our Good, Better & Best selections for you. We feel all of these boots will be on your side even if the weather isn’t. Thanks, Wil & Wendy

Good Morning!! This is kind of funny. Last night Will and I talked “In Depth” about ice fishing boots. I told him it is probably impossible to have the “Perfect” boot for ice fishing, but IMHO a rubber bottom, leather upper, great toe protection, comfort, warmth and flex for kneeling would be in my personal boot. I like the rubber bottom because they are always getting wet on the outside and dry/wet, dry/wet will devour leather bottoms unless you oil daily. I’ll be perfectly honest in saying that I haven’t reviewed any of Will’s boots, but the ALpha Ice King is precisely what I described.

Great read Will and I’m sure with the IDO discount members will look to take advantage of this deal.

Do you have a Weight per boot on the Alpha Ice King?? Also I am in the market for a nice pair of deer hunting boots. What are the chances you can do a similiar post for the hunting boots?? In all honesty I’ve worn mine out. I’m looking for probably a combo Leather boot, Toe protection and possibly heel?, Middle of the pack warmth and as light as light as possible. Obviously water proof as well.

I still own my pair of original Ice Kings from about 16 years ago. To this day, they’re the warmest boot I’ve ever owned. Back then, the boots were a bit bulky and somewhat heavy, though it looks like the re-incarnation is more sleek and I think I read it’s lighter?

As we’ve discussed on here several times before, I’m one of the many ice-fishermen that’s growing tired of the latest advertised ultra-warm pac-boot that lasts less than a full ice season. Invariably, all that I’ve owned in the past five years have eventually either leaked or worn-out prematurely.

This year I’ll be looking to yet another new boot, as I returned last year’s Inferno’s back to Cabelas.

Ice Kings are freak boots. Mine must be going on somewhere between 15 and 20 years now and still getting the job done. They are a little heavy and Im starting to notice that more now than 15 years ago.

I had the exact same pair you did… leaked like a sieve after two months of use. Not sure they can be returned at this point but I’ll never buy another pair that’s for sure.

It looks like the Ice Kings are 6.6 lbs, Alpha Ice Man 4.4 lbs, and the Alpha Ice Kings are 5.3 lbs. I’m torn between the two Alpha boots. A little more warmth sounds nice but so does a little less weight too.

New pair of Alpha’s Ice Kings on the way here. I’m sold on La Crosse boots. My last pair of Icemen gave up on me last year after 9 years of hard use. Workboot is great to deal with. I’ve shopped around for the last year or so and this 15 percent discount and no shipping fee make this the best deal I’ve found online. If you need new boots for the upcoming hardwater season now is the time.

With the old ones, the issue was more about bulk than weight. The old ones were great till late season deer hunting or ice fishing. My feet barely fit on the tree-steps to crawl up into the stand, and my feet didn’t fit under the foot shifter of the atv for early ice 4-wheeler excursions. That said, I think I’m going to the Alpha Ice Kings as they’ve significantly trimmed down the bulk factor for only about 1 lb difference.

Will/Wendy expect my order sooner than later! I remember many deer seasons when the first week of November (only a month away – yikes!) required pac boots for the frigid sit.

Is there a general rule on what size ice king to get? I normally wear an 11 in everything. What do I start with Ice Kings?

La Crosse boots tend to run a little big. I wear 8.5 for everything but ice boots from la Crosse I wear an 8. and that fits a few sock layers.

When I sold Ice Kings for La Crosse Footwear, we told people to go with 1 size bigger the foam liner is can be constrictive and can cause feet to get cold due to poor circulation. If you can find a place to try them on, go there first to make your decision om size.

The wife gave me the green light on a Sno Suit, so I am thinking a pair of the ice kings would look awful nice with it!
