    For Immediate Release

MarCum’s LX-7, the industry’s first and only real-time color LCD sonar unit, was released to the public at Icast in Las Vegas on July 13. The LX-7 will forever change the way ice anglers search for and catch fish with the advent of new sonar features like Real-Time display, Sonar Footprint and a completely customizable user-interface that allows the angler to select how information is displayed using MarCum’s exclusive combination of circular and vertical representations of the water column. The LX-7 has been a long time coming… but it was well worth the wait!

Here’s some other stats that haven’t been touched on yet but I’m sure will be asked.

Depth Range: 0-300 ft. Depth range can be controlled manually or automatically using Dynamic Depth.

Size: Overall size and weight will be very similar to an LX-5.

Power Consumption: 850 milliamps. For comparison the LX-5 uses 750 milliamps.

Future-Proof: The LX-7 has a usb port and internal flash memory which will allow for future updates and upgrades without having to send the unit to the manufacturer.

Very cool! Marcum just raised the bar again.

Quick question. If the showdown has zero lag, how can this be 4 times faster? Isn’t 4 times 0….0?

Looks like a winner either way!

    Ah yes, excellent question.

The Showdowns produce a response time of 80 milliseconds. The LX-7’s response time is 20 milliseconds. So, four times faster. OF course the engineers tell us that the threshold for the brain / eyes ability to perceive “lag” starts around 100 milliseconds. So anything faster than that is fast enough to outpace the human brain and appear “real time.”

Given the capabilities I think we’ll see the 7’s used by anglers that want real-time response performance in the boat as the open water graph mode should excel in applications when the boat is on plane. No more marking fish, bottom changes or baitfish when those targets are well behind you!

I ran a flasher in the boat either exclusively or along side a graph (LCD or Paper) for years. There are some definite advantages to the flasher. You said it – “Especially on plane”!

I hope visibilty in sunlight will be good! My lx-5 may be for sale. Seeing your screen well outside of the fish house is a big issue with me.

I had units outside in the Vegas sun this past week and visibility was excellent. As good or better than the top of the line units offered by other manufacturers of open water electronics. When the LX-7 starts to hit stores you’ll have to convince someone to let you take one outside to the parking lot for testing for yourself.

    James,
What about the color mode… did I see or hear someplace where the color mode was adjustable ?

How does it compare to the LX-5 ?

    thanks James !!

The LX-7 has multiple color pallets. Two – 3 color pallets, a 6 color and a grey scale.

Yes, they will have a high speed for the boat and a puck for the bow troller.

The good stuff is never cheap, is it?

Although when you consider that other manufacturer’s top of the line mechanical flashers come in over $600 once you add the softpack… the MSRP on the 7 seems to be priced “right” when you consider the capabilities, new features and the graph mode that allows 365/days year use.

No official release date has been given yet but guys in the know at MarCum have been saying “long before ice.” October 1 sounds about right but that’s me guesstimating.

My crappie will be leaving the shallows soon. I love using my flasher to find and jig them up deep. October is a great time to do it.
