Ice Fishing Gear Storage

Just a friendly reminder. I went to organize my gear for summer storage and noted a fair amount of water in the bottom of the tub. Must have been some snow/ice stuffed up in some crevices.

So now everything is set-up drying out before being packed away for summer.

Found the same thing 2 weeks ago. I had some pretty gnarley goop in the bottom of mine I mucked out and dried before packing away. Hopefully this year I picked a better location where the mice CAN’T get to it.

BTW, it was packed full of dryer sheets, so I guess we can call than myth busted…

Don’t forget to empty out the fuel tanks and run augers dry. I wouldn’t rely on “fuel stabilizers”. Also a little spray of WD-40 here and there can’t hurt…

    Good reminder Wade. -Mark

Just any old dryer sheets or was it Bounce dryer sheets. There is a BIG difference.

I have been told and always leave stabilized non ethanol fuel in my auger and start it every month. This keeps the diaphragm from drying out.

Yeah, you don’t want to run it dry unless you get it fogged. Running it dry will cause the gaskets to crack.

Besides, who doesn’t like firing up their auger and closing their eyes and pretending they’re out on the ice every few weeks. Sure, the neighbors look at you funny, but it’s your fantasy, not theirs.

Don’t forget to charge the flashers at least once every 6 weeks or so, doesn’t matter the brand of flasher but its always a good idea to charge those throughout the summer storage season.

I pull all my flasher batteries out and keep them in the house to charge every month or so.

I use bounce dryer sheets and mouse poisen in my shed and have never had one issue.

I leave the auger gas in the auger with Sta-Bil in the tank. I run it for awhile after I put the Sta-Bil in the tank.

I also put Bounce dryer sheets in my rod bags to keep those mice from chewing up the cork handles.

Maybe a bit lucky but never an issue with any of my store ice gear.
