Anyone care to share ice conditions or inches on any lake in Minnesota looking to hit the water or should I say ice next Saturday…much appreciated!
Did a drive around today after the show, still saw open water or other soft areas south of the metro.
Daytime highs are supposed to be near 20 with lows in the single digits. Will have to check again on Friday to see what things look like.
Can’t help with anything an hour of the East metro but we have lots of ice in the Alexandria area. We still have some open water on a few of the big lakes but had 10 inches where I was on Wednesday.
DT
we spent the weekend up at mille lacs we did not fish mille lacs but did go out on one of the smaller lakes that had 6 to 8 inches on our way home we saw people out on ann lake and the smaller lake just out side of cambridge.
you can find ice on some of the smaller lakes/bays in the metro. I was on 5-6 inches yesterday in the west metro. Grab a spud bar and some picks and hit up some of the smaller lakes in your area. I bet you will find good ice
There are quite a few smaller north metro lakes (shoreview/roseville area, specifically) that have around 5 inches of good ice. I was out with a spud bar checking a handful of them around my house on Sunday and was relieved to see that the snow didn’t ruin the progress we had made.
Check out the “Ice Report” app. I have it loaded on my iPhone, not sure if they have it for Android. The app is currently showing a lot of data for the whole state.
Any word on White Bear Lake?
There were people fishing the far western half out from the VFW (shallow end of the lake) and I would assume there are some guys out from belle aire as well. However I would bring a spud and be careful. DO NOT go out on the Mahtomedi side or out from Ramsey yet. I haven’t checked it yet but that’s the deeper water and always the last to build good ice.
I was out on peltier and bald eagle yesterday. Peltier had a nice 6 inches saw some atv tracks out there (crazy to me). Tons of people out. Bald Eagle had 5-6 inches on it but only in the bay by the boat launch. I did not venture out any further. I would always bring a spud and ice picks.

How’d you do on Bald Eagle? That bay used to be pretty good to me early ice and the last few years it’s been rough.
Big marine has 6 or 7 inches of ice and I had my wheeler on it tonight. One of the locals on the lake drug his 8’x 8′ permanent out with his wheeler, his buddy had a side by side with him.

We caught a lot of small perch But i have a few new lakes in the area I have never tried that I want to hit, May need your expert advice about the area
In Towne Marina on Waconia posted they are opening for business this Friday, ice ranging from 5-8″ in most places, but a few bad spots still at 1.5″ so extreme caution is still recommended!
took a drive here in Polk county wis not much happening. nobody getting to brave the way it looks.
Just a warning for Big Marine. There was a large flock of geese keeping a big hole open on the north side of the center island of the main lake up until a few days ago. Be careful out there and check as you go.
