    Guys and Gals,

Our annual ice trip is growing to 12 people this year.

Wondering if any of you have games or pools you do to make the trip more fun.

I was thinking of doing like a blind partner combined weight or big fish contest thing or something just to make the days fun.
Also was thinking of having a daily award for the guy that does the dumbest thing on the ice or looses the biggest fish.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

My family reunion is going on 60 years this year. We hand out trophies every year for things like the golf contest and horseshoes. we also have 2 awards called the half assed award and the aw-shi* award handed out for the craziest moments during the reunion. We get our names engraved on them with the year next to it. The golf trophy is a giant middle finger lol. The rule is that if you win a trophy you must have it displayed in the window every day of the year. If someone from the family comes to your house and you don’t have the trophy on display you have to buy a round of drinks for everyone in the family at the next reunion. Maybe some of these ideas can be applied to your trip. It certainly adds to our annual reunions.

We do a $20 each pot for big fish but if you win you have to buy lunch or supper on the way home for everyone. In the fish house everyone puts in a quarter and if your fish makes it across the 5gal bucket you get the pot, if it doesn’t you put a quarter in. If you set the hook and miss it, it will cost you a quarter. Keep in mind this is on lake of the woods.

We have had contests where we have tried to catch a targeted weight fish……ie: when tip-upping, the winner might be a 2#4oz pike…..or some random number….. it was always a good time.

    Poker –
    Everyone throws in x-amount.
When you catch a fish, you get a card. At the end of the day, the best poker hand wins the pot.

We normally do a first fish, most fish, and biggest fish for a contest. Depending on the lake we are on, we might say only walleye count. Whoever catches the least amount of fish wins a Let’s Go Fishin board game so they can practice for next year.

Buddy gave us this one on LOTW. Good way to pass the time. Also added a bigger penalty. Eelpout or whitefish, pay in whatever the pot amount is at that time.

On Rainy, we do a first fish ($1/person), biggest walleye ($1/person) for the day and biggest northern ($5) for the trip… One year my bud put a 27″ or 28″ in the boat and I beat him on the same spot later in the day by a 1/2″, almost always win the northern cause I fish with 20# floro as my leader…

Thanks for the ideas. We are fishing perch on Devils Lake so hopefully we will be catching a good number of fish but will keep these all in mind.

We bring ICE hole or Hot 100… If you catch a fish, everyone else takes a shot… If you set the hook and miss, you take a shot…

I also have a Nintendo Switch in the ice house for some Mario Kart action… We have yet to figure out a way to monetize or turn that into a drinking game

I would be wasted in no time while my buddy would be sober as a judge. Still trying to figure out how he got that horseshoe up there…

Maybe it’s the lushes I go fishing with on ice trips but we do good enough job drinking in general. Miss a fish drink, catch a fish drink, watching someone drill a hole drink, pass the minnows drink, drink cause you just took a drink, you get the idea doah

If there’s enough snowpack playing yard jarts with frozen walleyes pretty fun.

Shoveling a clean long runway of sorts, drill pyramid of shallow holes each end for sunfish bowling.

Wish I’d remembered the other stupid crap we’ve done.
