FYI – The ice the Bayport area in middle of the river south of the ice road is about 6 – 8″ thick AT THE MOST.

Me, usually just in front of the park or I haul my stuff almost to the WI side. Sometimes I just set up right smack in the middle. I try to hit 30′ of water on most occasions or deeper for crappies. 25′ or less for perch and gills, sometimes. 15′ to 20′ if I’m trying for walleyes on rare occasions. I try to avoid mudpuppies…

There’s an access by Anderson Windows open to the public! Or is that the power plant? Long haul for sled.

I just use the park in Bayport. Park in the overflow parking just a few hundred yards South from the beach. Or you can haul stuff down the beach. If you want to drive onto the river, when ice is thick enough, there’s a sign and directions right there in the park to tell you how to get onto the river. The access is on the south end of town just crossing the RR tracks.

the access at Anderson is a boat ramp and the long ass walk is the one at the power plant I only go to the power plant to get shad for bait they are stacked in there

I guess I don’t know about that boat ramp. Just never seen anyone walked from that direction. Well I did see a few full sized trucks out, mostly from the WI side.

I drove on the ice in my small car on Sunday.

I went exploring some. 14″ then 30 yards away it was 7″. I found a spot of clear black ice, cracks are about 4″ deep. I didn’t drill there. Didn’t bring the cleats. Need cleats for sure.

Ice is down to 10-11 inches. Nobody on. Soft powder on ground. Windy, around 10-15 mph.

I did, three crappies. Two of them 9″ one 11″. Several mooneyes, always the lure chaser and bait stealers. A baby white bass, only 6″. Two saugers 14″ and 15″.

I checked the ice today. 13″ in several spots. Good powder on ground. No slush…
