3″ of clear solid ice but no holes have been drilled so I’ll give it one more day.
Hopefully some locals go out there today and punch some holes. I never want to be the first.

3” is pretty safe to walk. Just make sure the sun isn’t beating down on it. Sun and warmth weakens it considerably. Especially without snow cover.

The good thing without snow is you can see weak spots before you step on them.

Never understood the fascination to be the first one out. Oh well, we know somebody is going to go through the ice I just hope it’s nobody here.

    Only 3″

Next week’s weather doesn’t look like it’s going to be too nice to it either.

Glad to get out today when I could. Just got in the stand for some surf and turf )

i don’t think its a fascination, at least not for me. i think its the jitters of putting the boat away and just waiting to fish again?

Saw a friend on Bookface was ice skating on Pelican Lake/Breezy Point on 3”, which he said was more than enough to ice skate on…am I wrong in thinking concentrating all your weight on 2 thin blades would be about the worst thing to do on early/thin ice?

Sooooo – I was loaded up and super stoked. Got out 50 feet punched a hole, 4″ of rock solid clear ice. I started walking to the honey hole throwin down the spud bar every 5′ or so. Got out to the first freeze line, threw the spud down. I hear a loud CRACK and the ice starts moving up and down. WT$!!! I slowly back up and get back to shore and load up the rig.
Needless to say I’m back a at the cabin changing my underwear.
I’m thinking a bar stool, the gophers game and some pull tabs are in my future for today.

After dunking a snowmobile in my younger years I’m not a fan of early ice. I’ll do it but I won’t be the first anymore. Thankfully there are other guys who will toast
