Stopped at FF Winona today looking for some ice picks and they had none. Now looking to you guys for suggestions? What is everyone using? I’ll just order off the internet and make it easy. Thanks. Shawn

I’ve got the Frabil ones, but haven’t had to “use” them yet. I like that they don’t need to be uncapped to use them. I added a round or so of masking tape to them so they stay together and don’t dangle springy cord as much, but can be easily separated when needed.

X2 on the Frabill picks. It’s nice that the picks are covered when not in use but easily there when pushed down on.

Agree, the little spring loaded sheathes are great to not stab yourself or other things.

I’ve never had to “use” mine, and I can’t even think of what brand they are. They appear they would work fine, but they only thing I do not like about them is that the string connecting the two is quite long. I wear them around my neck/shoulders, but then when I bend over they dangle quite low in front of me. They get in the way, especially when drilling holes (and a safety concern always pops into my head of them getting tangled into the auger). The ones like James wears on the show where they connect and don’t hang a few feet down in front of you would be better.

I use the Rapala picks. I like the Frabill’s but I find that unless you have the Frabill Jacket that has the holders for the picks they fly all over and then get tangled.

The Rapala picks join together and it is one coiled line. No tangles. My guess is when I have to use them It will be a panic and untangling them is the last thing I want have to think about. I keep a pair in my side by side one for me and one for who ever fishes with me.

I use the Frabill picks and have actually used them twice. Like Bob said, they’re not a great option if you don’t own the coat with the holders. Call me crazy, but I usually only have them on my coat early and late ice or in the backwaters. Even with the holders, they can be a minor annoyance.

Without the coat, I would most likely spring for the Rapala ones.

Well I ordered 2 pair of the frabill yesterday. We’ll see how they are when I get them?? I guess getting old one just worries more if something would happen, hopefully prepared. Thanks for the responses.
