Ice Runner Escape

  • #1892335

First, as I new member, I apologize, as I realize this topic has been beat to death multiple times but — I am considering a new one-man flip over with no poles to extend and any input appreciated. I do not want a seat in it as I always have my pooch with me and the bracketing for the seats takes up the space where he lays – I just use my own seat. I am possibly replacing a Clam Legend XL that had poles bent up in wind (see my other recent post) and took the seat out of that one so really do not want to pay for a seat and just remove it.

I like what I see on-line about the Ice Runner Escape and despite frustrations with Clam, am considering the Blazer Stealth (it has that bucket bracket but could probably live with that as does not take up as much room as the seat bracket on other units — or would just remove that.

Again, apologize for opening up this already beat to death topic, but any input appreciated.

I wanted a simple non-extending flip to augment my older stackable cottages. I picked up a kenai, followed by a blazer stealth late last ice season. Both were 50% off, so figured I could decide anytime which I kept.

I like not having the seat in the blazer. The big drawback is the sled, the shallow sled makes keeping the fabric off the ice a little problematic. It takes a bit of fussing to tuck it all in to prevent it from dragging. The sled is also pretty big, but that’s not a huge deal, makes for a good sized shelter when flipped. I considered not using the bucket bracket, but installed it and have been using it (mostly the cup holders smile ). It could easily be left out and would allow you to sit back further in the trap without having it in the way.

The kenai has been nice, but the sled proportions and geometry are kinda funny. It’s like dragging a cardboard box around once any measurable snow accumulates.
