What size rods do you guys use in your flip overs. I have a 2 man clam Yukon flip over and am wondering if a 30-32” rod will be too long to fish comfortably?

I owned a Yukon a few years back and now I own a Otter Cabin.

32″ is the longest I could get to work without touching the tarp. You still have to be careful but it works just fine.

I mean you cannot lean forward and set the hook.

I also have a Otter Cabin and use 28″-30″ any longer and I would not be able to fish 4 holes. Being the front 2 would be for a dead stick and my jigging hole is right in front of my feet. If that makes sense.

I also have a Yukon and would agree with this.

I always want the longest rod I can use and find 31” to be the perfect size. With 32” I would sweep the tarp some times. Once I went to 31” I haven’t touched it since.

I love my 36-42in rods, but I have to go with 32in when I have to hunker down in the Otter. I have the resort and 32 is what I switch to for inside.

I have all 32″ and occasionally hit the door in my Otter Cottage.

I use 28″-32″ rods inside my Otter XT Cabin which is comparable to the Yukon. I think it’s a little taller than the Otter Pro Cabin, and I don’t have any problems hitting the tent.

I might suggest sitting in your hut and measuring distance btw where your tip of your rod will be and where your holes will be. I fish a flip over and not much distance so I limit my rods to 28″.

Agree. I guess I’ve always based my rod length on how close I want to sit to the hole and I like to be close. I have several 26″ and several 28″. Just ordered my first 30″ a TUCR Precision.

Follow up: sometimes I like to be looking right down the hole. In that case I use a real short noodle rod.

I think part of it depends on where you put your holes, where you sit, and how you hold the rod. I had an older fish trap… i forget the name but it was the basic 2 man with bucket seats… Fish trap Guide maybe. I used 32 inch rods in that and didn’t want to go much longer.

I find I can fish much longer rods in my Otter Cabin. I have a couple 36 inchers that are no problem to use in the Cabin.

Go to fleet farm grab 4 different length rods off the shelf. Sit in a house similar to yours that they got sent up and see what length works the best for you.

I have a quite a few built to 31″, a perfectly cromulent length. toast

I’m partial to using short 4″ handles, especially on shorter panfish rods. It does limit reel mounting and handling options, but puts a greater proportion of the rod into play.

I kinda look at my tiny handles as a rod extender… redface
