Opinions on ice reels supposedly use a more appropriate grease for cold weather vs a standard reel bought. Thoughts? Thx

Just use open water reels and clean all the factory grease out and use some quantum hot sauce

New reels get opened and a couple drops with the oil here and there seem to loosen up everything nicely for myself. Too lazy nowadays to clean everything out, use to, but this works for me now.

Quantum Hot Sauce here. A little goes a long ways. I usually open the reels and get the grease out I can without tearing apart the entire reel.

I have seen many reels billed as ice reels become so stiff in the cold weather, that you could hardly turn the handle.
I once asked a rep at the CSI show to put them in the freezer overnight, before I bought any quantity, next morning stiff as hell. Most anglers wont clean and regrease with a quality lubricant like hotsauce, but thats all thats needed.

Gears/sliding parts get grease, bearings get oil.
Anti-reverse roller clutch gets very little oil,if any.Reels that get that sticking feeling when cold/damp usually have some grease that migrated into them.
