I think one of the resorts up there on Mille Lacs plowed a road “just cause” over the past weekend.

That was Eddy Lyback this past Saturday. Just for something to do…

Tim Chapman is still plowing out to the crappie hole in Isle Bay.

No need to hire him. Eddy..(Lybacks), Randy’s Rentals, Rocky Reef, Mac’s Twin Bay, The Wharf I think, and a few others will be plowing their ice roads and pulling their rental houses back out to have them in place in time for the opener.

If you are bringing your own wheelhouse, the $10 access fee remains the same.

Thick enough that I think it’s an under 25% chance of the lake being completely ice-free by the Opener. But that’s up quite a bit from the 2% chance I would have given it a couple days ago when it looked like the area was gonna get rocked by another snow storm.

Can we fish with 2 lines apiece?

Well, it turns out the area did get hit pretty good by the snow today. Not looking good.

    I’ll answer my own question!

On April 12th on the northwest side, there was 28-34″ of ice that was getting waterlogged. On top was 4-10″ of slush. This was before the storm.

I’m headed up this weekend with my son to bring a load of firewood, turn on water, and stock the fridge with beer. I’ll report when I get back….

The ice went out on my pond this morning. grin
Rain in the forecast and with wind it will be surprising how fast it will go out.

6-8 ft of open water along shore here on the NE corner. A lot of the ice is looking dark, some still white. Will report again later this weekend ….

No doubt ML will be ice free on opener. Might be within a couple days, but it will be open.

I now think Mille Lacs just might make it by Opener. What a reversal of fortune this weather has taken.

I’m sticking with my original guess. It will not be ice free, bays open sure, out from shoreline sure, ice free, not a chance.

It’s all history tracking. People forget how powerful the April sun can be and you now what they say, April Showers bring…

Very very rarely has the ice not been off MN lakes by opener. Two weeks left? Heck, most lakes will have boats on them by the weekend.

I’m aware of how powerful the April sun is. What I didn’t think would happen was for the weather to stay consistently warm as it has and looks like it’s going to continue to be. Usually, we get a brief dip back into early March like temperatures for at least a couple of days. The weather has been excellent for two straight weeks and it seems the nice days are going to continue coming. woot waytogo

I think there will be a few hundred yards of flushable water and we’ll have to watch the wind which will decide where we can fish. Gonna be packed

Nah. I told a buddy a couple weeks ago that it will be out Thursday or Friday before opener. Now I’m thinking Wednesday.
