Drove down the West side before noon starting in Garrison. Looked completely open from Garrison North. Down to Eddy’s looked like 30 to 60% covered, depending on the area. Eddy’s to the South looked covered. But the ice is obviously pretty broken down now, and it’s rolling out there again today.
The lake is now open from Seguchie point (by Terrys) all the way across and to the north.
Wahkon was ice free and then this wind blew the main basin ice.
Half Moon was having a growing pile on the north side.
Otto’s Point, Half Moon, & Meshegan Point held the big block out but a small factured glob of slush was pushing in before I had to head to a meeting
Yep they were at the Garrison access yesterday. Sure hope they keep on an eye on the wind…otherwise more lost nets

Was that the ML band Bob, or bands to the northeast & WI?
Wahkon bay is jambed with rotten, punky ice.
Yep, moving around today. Got the breeze out of the south. Sunset bay was wide open last night, full of slush ice now.

I’m glad the WI tribes are pulling out fish by the thousands and I’m hoping to keep one.

Exactly my thoughts also! While we’re at it, why don’t we just give over upper red lake in it’s entirety and hand over the state park over by Granite Falls, both of which can be enjoyed by ALL Minnesotans right now, I guess we better enjoy them quick because they may be gone soon! Let’s keep our public lands public! And not just limit it to a few select individuals. And let’s get it straight, the Sioux were the individuals around in Minnesota before the Ojibwe came from the great lakes area, and then inevitable civilization happened… can’t we all just get along and enjoy this entire state all together peacefully rather than limiting certain areas to just certain people. OK I’m done now.
Guessing the ice is out this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Satellite shows a small bit of ice on the SW side. Friend at Izaty’s said this afternoon.
Just drove by up 169. Another day or so on the southern 3-4 miles of the lake.
My source said it was officially declared on May 5th in the evening. So bucky badger’s random guess was on the money.
My experience the DNR website is several days late. Local first hand knowledge says May 5th or 6th.
