Yeah Andy has been quite lately. Hopefully he is relaxing and watching the ice go out.
I drove up the SW side yesterday around 2pm. Had ice cubes out a hundred yards or so. By the time I made it to Garrison there was only open water and alot of white caps.
The lesson I learned this year is what a profound effect high winds with temps in the mid-forties and higher have on melting ice. I am shocked at how quick it went this year with those high winds we had over the last few weeks.

Not just that. There were a couple 70s in there with sun and wind (Not to mention some 60s and 50s). You get both radiative and convective heating.
