Ice Magic is a Coiled Mess

Heard good things about this line so spooled some up recently. I haven’t been able to use it though. First time I dropped a lure with it I ended up with a coiled rat’s nest.

Any ideas on how to avoid this or is this line more susceptible to coiling?

Maybe a bad spool? I just loaded three reels with this line, two reels with 3# and one with 6#, and all three of then worked fine the first time I used them.

    Possibly spool it on backwards?

Best thing I have found is to loosen the drag up a bit and pull the line out by hand instead of opening the bail to stretch the line out. This helps take the coils out after you do it a few times. Might take a little longer to get down by doing this at first but eventually you won’t need to do it anymore once you get the line stretched.

Sounds like it’s spoiled on backwards. The new line needs to come off the refill spool counterclockwise or else it’ll be badly twisted and will perform as you described.

When spooling up mono type line on smaller spools I will soak the spool in hot water until it cools..

Never have I had it uncoil after doing this !

OK, maybe it got spooled in the wrong direction. All I did was tie it on the spool and start reeling it on. Was this incorrect? Thanks

For spinning reels line needs to come off the factory spool counter-clock wise so it can spool onto the reel clockwise. You very well could have spooled the line on backwards.

I don’t have issues with ice magic unless it’s 2#. Very light line that loves to hang out in the wind. Still no coiling though.
