With the wind predicted for tomorrow the south end is gonna have a lot of ice pilling up. Looks like it is pushing out from the north end pretty good already with just a 12mph wind. They get gusts of 40mph tomorrow it could get messy down south.

From our “Perch” by the dawns early light…about 35 percent open–at least. By the end of today 4/2/16/or tomorrow? Maybe….BIG waves are taking a toll fast. No clear path from Isle to Garrison–yet.
April 2, 2016 at 7:31 am #1611004After coffee this morning, we will go take a look around and see what’s happening. Yesterday evening, spirit island looked to be a big pile of ice.

Next wind switch should make it move the other way and get it officially called “open/ice out”–as the “official” path to Isle will open up from Garrison. Tomorrow? Monday or ?? If it stays clear and the sky pic is clear as it was today–it makes it easy to call it.

As predicted…the wind switch over night/this morning has the main sheet on the move from SE to NW–about 3 mph. 10 am. and it is just hitting the Wealthwood shorelines and west of there. If it holds together, it should hit the Myr Mar point area square in the next couple hours or so. It has moved around 6-8 miles since the sky pic yesterday. Lots of momentum behind it now….

The ice has been moving slowly from east to west the past couple hrs. almost paralleling the north shore. Still moving/creeping west so who knows if it will make land again or not. Still about 2 miles east/southeast of the Myr Mar area just grazing the Wealthwood shorelines…
steve-fellegyResides on the North Shores of Mille Lacs--guiding on Farm Island these daysPosts: 1294April 3, 2016 at 1:55 pm #1611261The sky pic shows ice in the middle now–surrounded by open water. No free of ice trip from Isle to Garrison–yet– but surely tomorrow. I doubt the ice will make land fall again….

The lake is entirely ice free Garrison to within a mile of Isle…go figure. SE wind might take that ice blocking the mouth out in front/north of Isle Bay overnight or tomorrow….so maybe the 5th?
April 5, 2016 at 7:40 am #1611613Pretty good chop coming into the north shore, but I don’t see any ice. Could today be “THE DAY”?

Still no “verification” that the mouth of Isle Bay is ice free–from the secret south shore “judge”. . But it should be soon. The lake was 95 percent or more ice free as of late yesterday but the “rule” is “from Isle to Garrison”. No way could I get into any part of Isle Bay at dark on the 4th….coming from Garrison via boat.
April 5, 2016 at 2:51 pm #1611717Looking like that ridge of ice in front of Isle bay is gone. Today should be the day.

The “committee” saw/heard that a boat leaving the access in Isle at 2 pm. today could get out to the main lake…so today should be the “day” but the “committee chair ” has yet to weigh -in –officially. LOL Stay tuned…

So once the ice is “officially” out, then what happens?

All bets are off–the 5th wins–and then one sits on the deck and stares at the lake recalling the good old days…what else is there? Lights/high-power headlamps in boats at night–shining into our bedrooms— along shore with long handled harpoons in the hands of the occupants? You had to ask…
April 7, 2016 at 8:49 am #1612114and yet here we are on the 7th and this is the view from my webcam…
