Ice House Regs on MN/WI border waters

    I have a hub fishing shelter (portable) I would like to leave it overnight on a borderwater between MN and WI. I am a bit confused about what I need. This is what the MN regs say;

    A shelter license is not required on the border waters between Minnesota or Wisconsin, Iowa and North and South Dakota.
    Also it says;

    Do I need any kind of identification on my shelter?
    All shelters need identification, except portable shelters that are occupied. Occupying a shelter means staying within 200 feet of it. Identification means one of the following:

    Owner’s name and address; owner’s driver’s license number; or owner’s Minnesota DNR identification number.

    Identification must be on the outside of the shelter with characters at least 2 inches high.

    My Question is this, Do I need to post letters 2″ high my name and address? or could I just put a tag on it with that information. I would find it hard to attach that information 2″ high on a hub house. Its on page 67 of the MN fishing regs. Does anybody leave portables out for several days? If so how do you provide the required info? I am new to ice fishing this year. Thanks for any help!

    Most portable houses have a clear sleeve you can put a cardboard sheet into. Don’t get caught up in the details of 2″. 1.5″ is fine. They aren’t that picky.

    All you need is your DL#. Or you can do your name and address. I believe you may need a license too. Don’t quote me on that though. Check for yourself.

    I would never leave a portable on the lake unless you plan to give it away. It’ll disappear for sure.

    Disappear? Thanks for the tip. I have never even thought of theft.
