I generally start with a 1/4oz rattling spoon on one rod and a dead-sticked glow demon on the other rod. A good old buckshot is hard to beat as a cheap easy to fish spoon. From there, I adjust occasionally based on what I learn if I have fish marked who don’t hit. Everyone has their favorite colors – but gold, pink, and bright uv combinations are frequently out of my tacklebox.

I personally think LOTW is one of the few places where you can often choose how you want to fish and catch fish versus how you have to fish to catch fish. I’ve got some friends who swear by jigging raps, slab raps, etc while others will fish 2 deadsticks if others in the house are using more aggressive baits. I think being on fish is infinitely more important to success than what lures/baits are used on a huge body like LOTW.

Orange, Red and Purple have been my go tos out there. I lost two size 6 purple chrome rippin raps to huge fish two weeks ago. One the fluoro leader know snapped at the barrel swivel the other I fought the fish for a few minutes and broke the line. My buddy was using a purple rail shad and after the fish broke me off it went over and hammered his line. Had it on for a while and couldnt even budge it just big headshakes and then broke his line too.
Most of our fish were caught either on rippin raps, rail shad or rattlin flyer. Didnt catch much on our set lines, but we did miss a few. I think we caught a total of 3 fish on set lines and missed at least that many, but far fewer fish than on jigging presentation.

I wonder how many times this same question has been asked on these Forum pages over the years(?).
“Heading up to LOTW…what color is best? …favorite lure? …size? …dead stick? etc. etc.
I also wonder if there’s ever any consistency to the answers!

Good luck to the OP. Have fun. It’s a great time up there. That’s the best advice I can offer.

In dozens of trips there a Red Buckshot is #1 by a wide margin, red hook set lines have won a couple trips, and one time a red throated Chubby Darter won.

    Gold, Gold and Gold
I of course used just about every other color and caught fish. lol

Go into the nearest tackle shop where you’re going, drop a C note on the counter and ask for help. I am sure they will take good care of you and you will be a favorite customer.

Gold, pink, white, blue. Sometimes any color will catch just as many fish. And there’s times a plain hook with minnow will outfish anything

I’ve always gotten the best answer to this question from the local sporting good stores. They have always helped me catch fish.
