Hey guys I am in need of an antenna for my icehouse, hoping to get local channels. Was specifically hoping it would work on Millelacs etc.

Curious what you use or what to stay away from? OR has anyone used the phone to stream to their tv’s out there?

    Thanks

I use the phone to stream from my I Phone. Usually when there’s a hockey game on. Get one of those HDMI adapters for you phone. Works fine for me. Otherwise I’m usually streaming music to my blue tooth speaker. Later at night if there’s no hockey game on I’ll pop in a dvd just to have something on for background noise if I’m tired of listening to music.

With a outdoor antenna you should be able to get most of the ota channels out of the cities on Mille Lacs and that would give you a good selection of tv choices

Forgot to mention you need to subscribe to a streaming service like Hulu or mine is AT&T Now before you can stream from your phone. I use the Fox Sports Go app and sign in with my AR&T account to get the Wild games.

I also use my phone (Samsung) with a USB c to hdmi cable. Worked great last year on Mille Lacs. Was able to watch movies and football.

If you do go with an antenna be sure you get one with a booster. I went from the 4 educational channels to 3 networks and a few weird, but better than the educational ones, on Red Lake.

If you look on Amazon many of those hdmi adapters state they won’t work with certain apps. I would call Xfinity and talk to their tech department for verification on which adapter they recommend as they are not exactly cheap.

I bought a new iPad this year with cellular. All of the tv we have at home is streaming, so I have a small tv wherever I go!

You’ll drain the data pretty quick going cellular. Honestly, if you can find satellite internet that doesn’t cap bandwidth, that’s your best bet.

If you’re going ota antennas from the lakes area, you’re 90-100 miles from most major stations. You’ll need the following:

    Clearstream 4 75 mile antenna
    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/antennas-direct-clearstream-4max-indoor-outdoor-hdtv-antenna-black/5894080.p?skuId=5894080

2 low noise cable drop amps rated at 15db
    https://www.amazon.com/1-Port-Cable-Amplifier-Signal-Booster/dp/B0792PTCFP/ref=asc_df_B0792PTCFP/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312120829329&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17399929763452614914&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9019639&hvtargid=pla-570183486698&psc=1#d

A 10-20′ boom to mount the antenna that can be rotated so you can keep it aimed at Shoreview, Duluth, or Bemidji while keeping it away from the metal on your drop house.

To position the antenna, use http://www.tvfool.com to find out what’s in range, and where it is on the compass from your location.

Depends on the channel/program. Most XFinity Stream sports programming (not on it’s own app like FSN or NBCSports) will NOT be allowed to pass through to the HDMI cable, it will give you an error stating that program does NOT allow video pass-through to an external TV source. I’m sure there are ways around that with non-official mirroring apps, but you would need to jailbreak your iphone…

These are about $30 on EBay. Never believe the mileage they claim. This did get me 3 networks on Red Lake and I think from my Antenna Pointer app they came from Bemidji. Best $30 I have spent for a while. I had DTV but it just got too expensive once they forced digital on us. Ignore the bottom pic. This is what I have. https://aax-us-east.amazon-adsystem.com/x/c/QtPijHSHvh77z5J_-CJvPnoAAAFugUxWEAEAAAFKAZJZMAY/https://www.amazon.com/FiveStar-Range-360-Rotation-Remote-Snap-Installation/dp/B07P9C3ZBV/ref=sm_n_se_dkp_US_pr_sea_0_0?adId=B07P9C3ZBV&creativeASIN=B07P9C3ZBV&linkId=097b455a34f10ae6f454198d765cc67d&tag=brg_ana_1-20&linkCode=w42&ref-refURL=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bestreviews.guide%2Fhome-tv-antennas&slotNum=0&imprToken=AlRGFPOp4.osfRPn4QnWwA&adType=smart&adMode=search&adFormat=grid&impressionTimestamp=1574127294346

Thanks for the reply, my only concern going this route would be having a boom pole which would seem like a pain. I wonder if anything is out there that would be strong enough that I could affix to the house and somewhat low profile without taking off. Then again might have to go satellite or stick with the cellular.

Dang that was my concern, it bites these big cable companies do this to prevent us from getting away from there cable boxes. I got unlimited data so that isn’t an issue but they supposedly cap it when its being overused.

Leaning towards the cellular if I can somehow get it to mirror would be ideal. Thinking of maybe trying to connect with my amazon firestick via wifi and see if I can get it to work through that route.

Else thinking maybe satellite, and get rid of cable, anyone use any of those portable RV satellite dishes? are they a pain to get a signal?

    Thanks

They are a little spendy, but worth the loot for something that mounts to your roof, is controllable from inside the shack, and doesn’t have to be aimed. Just avoid dish for service if you want fox sports north, because they have been in contract disputes for nearly a year.

You can find poles that mount to the side of the fish house for easy access. Metal creates interference, and because you are so far away from a transmitter, the boom becomes necessary.

Paying extra for a few months of data and a cellular router might be the best bang for your buck next to sattelite depending on the carrier.
