So I noticed watching the latest IDO show and saw James and Dave fishing near what looked like a heave

I was in South Dakota last week and also noticed on 2 different lakes there were a lot of permys and portables fishing near these heaves

I know they are dangerous to be near so why do guys fish near them?
Is it better fishing near these or better oxygen levels which would mean better fishing or is this all just coincidence?

I’ve done it up on red as a starting point. Don’t know if it made any difference though.

    Terrible
Same for me on Way Bay…
No Perch either and 14.25″ biggest Walleye
All came in from 4:30pm to 5:30 then shut off

Fished 7 lakes in 4 days, 40 plus hours of ice time with only about 35 caught/ 10 kept
All 10-11″ Perch from 3 Buck slough
    Very dissapointing

Not sure about on LOW like last weeks episode. But in SoDak, sometimes I have fished heaves in shallower, featureless lakes because they create an edge. The heaves let in more light, especially if there is deep snow, and create a shadow edge which fish will relate to sometimes. They aren’t my go to by any means but they can bump your numbers at times. YES YOU MUST USE CAUTION WHEN FISHING NEAR HEAVES!!!!!!

On shallow lakes like red, ice heaves create underwater structure that are usually as big under the ice as they are above.

I’ve caught everything from perch and walleye to northern and crappie near them. Getting as close as you safely can is best. I’ve drilled through the middle of old healed heaves and done well, that is if you can get all the way through.
