Ice Gear Storage Boxes

  • #2073474

I am looking at creating a better storage system for my gear. I primarily walk out on small lakes pulling an otter sled, using a couple buckets and bags. I am thinking of investing in some nicer tool storage boxes like the Milwaukee packout or Dewalt Toughsystem but worry about them getting so cold they crack. Anyone had experience with totes or tool boxes cracking from the cold and wet?

What are you putting in the boxes?
I really don’t see a need for any type of totes.

Pretty much anything and everything. 1 lb propane tanks, hand warmers, drill for the auger, extra tie downs, snacks, tackle, water, TP, flash lights, battery charger for the cell phone, ruler, pliers, extra flasher and drill battery or whatever else I feel like bringing out.

Some of that I throw in the sled, other stuff I would use soft sided zipper bags.

I use a couple Dewalt Tough System boxes to store extra drill batteries and more fragile gear too. They hold up great, I’ve never had any problems with them in the cold. Much better than cheap plastic totes in my opinion.

Rubbermaid 8 gallon Action Packer. More durable than tote. I store things like chains, jumper cables, hitch pins etc in one in my truck. Will fit nicely in sled.

I use the action packer also , Rubbermaid Rough totes are way better than a plain tote ,more durable .

I use a Benelli hard bottom back pack for tackle and bibs and soft sided cooler bags for everything else, they work great for lanterns..
