I ran into a guy on a lake this year that had one of the older ones, they are incredibly fast. The newer models are much lighter than the old ones. I have yet to hear from anyone who owns one that doesn’t love it. If I was sold on the concept of an electric ice auger, I would buy it. The only issue I could foresee is availability of parts once the auger is out of warranty. Being a Nils Tanaka owner, I apparently don’t see that as an issue, however doah

If you go on the iceshanty website there are a lot of threads on the icegator. Readers digest version is they cut very fast but the downside is parts can be hard to come by and customer service is lacking.

I went with the ION as I also read on other sites the customer service is not there. Might be better now but when I got my auger two season ago it didn’t seem to be.

Wont be long and we’ll have electric AND fast. I’ll bet shortly after that longevity. I can see gas augers losing footing in the next decade.
