I have dabbled with ice fishing the St Croix River above the Taylors Falls Dam. I have fished the lions park and have seen other holes punched there. Anyone ever ice fish the lions park right above the dam as well? has anyone else ever tried fishing backwater pools on the upper stretch of the Croix? does anyone have a guess on where the fish in that stretch of river would migrate during the winter months?
I gave up ice fishing the Croix a couple years ago. The ice isnt safe or there’s no access where I would like to fish and I cannot consistently locate enough fish to bother where its safe. I think also the fishing has gotten poorer over the years too. I see all the people out there but I think they are mostly going through the motions and just “ice fishing” instead of catching.
I am always ready to be a believer again!!! Its so close I can easily fish it on weekdays after work.
