We have a great thread going on ice fishing boots and many mentions of good socks to keep your feet dry. Any specific recommendations on these socks?

A good liner sock with merino wool over the top. You’ll stay warm and dry especially if you walk a lot or sweat a lot.

X2 on the merino, but I don’t use a liner. The merino is way to comfy to but something in between my doggies and my wool.

I wear Baffin boots and only wear a thin polypropylene sock to whisk away moisture.

I have worn nothing but smart wool socks for probably ten years. Every single day. Doesn’t matter if it’s 100 or -30, they are the most comfortable option. I rarely wear anything other than one regular pair, even ice fishing or sitting in a deer stand. Regular rubber boots unless it’s below 15 degrees.

I am a huge fan of Darn Tough socks. They are the only brand of socks I will wear…everything from sport socks to merino wool socks. They are not cheap but they’re worth every penny and more and they come with a lifetime warranty. I’d be shocked if you don’t like them.

Smart Wool and Darn Tough are the way to go for merino wool socks, Both made in the USA. I own plenty of both but do personally prefer Darn Tough.

I have diagnosed Reynaud’s Syndrome which has caused a severe narrowing of blood vessels in my extremities. As I type this sitting at my desk, my hands are cold to the touch and take 8-10 seconds for color to return after pressing on my hand. This makes cold hands and feet 10x worse and more prevalent.

Regarding my feet, I’ve found the easiest thing to do is to wear a pair of socks out, and then change to a pair of warm dry ones once I find a place to set up if my feet were sweating. On a day where I know I am going to be more mobile, I may take 3-4 pairs with. My situation is not ideal, but every sock in the world has yet to help with this on its own for an entire day.

This is the way to do it. Weather in the woods or on the ice that is what I use.

Also, spray your feet with antiperspirant deodorant. Helps keep the sweat down (and smell!)

I tried the whole liner sock thing with more active sports like hunting, snowboarding etc. and didn’t like it. I felt like my foot slipped around to much, with a liner/smartwool combo. This is actually what led me to try Darn Tough and I find I like just a Darn Tough sock better than any smartwool/liner combo or single smartwool sock. I now relegated the smart wools to stationary sports and anything active is Darn Tough.
