Nice rods for just getting going. I do not own one but from what I’ve heard go okuma. Also personally would recommend going spinning route. Have spinning and inline I’ll only be buying spinning for ice rods going forward.

Shimano Sienna or Okuma Ceymar. Spinning only for me anymore.

x3 on the Sienna. You usually find them at Cabelas or online for $29.99. Nothing fancy but a smooth drag and solid overall reel. I have them on my TUCRs.

What are the rod weights and what do you plan on catching with them? It’s hard to beat a quality size 1000 spinning reel for pretty much any fish unless your targeting trophy pike/trout or something. I like Shimano reels. The Okuma’s should work out well. The Abu Garcia Cardinal SX line is a rather decent affordable reel, also.

I use a Shimano Sedona 1000 on my TUCR Bullwhip. A Shimano Sienna 500 on my TUCR Precision Noodle and an Abu Garcia Cardinal SX5 on my other Precision Noodle. I also use an Cardinal SX10 on a jigging rod I built for small spoons/raps. All of those reels also double as summer reels and work great from bluegill to river smallmouth bass.

A smooth drag is the most important thing to look out for. All the reels I mentioned (no experience with Okuma) have nice drags. After a cleaning and a lube job with some Quantum HotSauce, my reels are winter ready and don’t let me down )

You will like the Okuma Ceymar 10.It’s a bummer that Shimano discontinued the Sahara.A lot of those small spinning reels have a narrow and deep spool.

I have a couple sienna’s. They are a good reel, but I like my pflueger trions better.

I use stradic 1000, or symmetry 500. The high end 500 shimanos are all discontinued. I see the staff of IDO running all okuma Ceymar. I also hear a lot of Tica guys. I have a few pfleuger trions that are nice, but no where near the Shimano quality. Any of the reels above will provide years of reliable service. If I were buying today it would be the Okuma. Bang for the buck they are the winners.

I picked up a couple Okuma Ceymar 10’s this year, and really like them the one time I got out. Sienna’s are good to, but I prefer the Ceymar so far.

Okuma Ceymar fan here. Will not be buying any other type of spinning reel for ice fishing. Super smooth and a good price point too!

How deep will you be fishing and for what species? Down here I fish mostly for panfish and relatively shallow. 15 foot or less but not always. I prefer inline reels.

No reason to go to a 30, 20 maybe if you plan on pike or lake trout. 10 will do everything you need.

I should try these Ceymars on a future purchase. My four main rods have Saharas and I’m pleased. Sedonas are very nice too. My dad and I also have numerous Sienna 500 and 1000 and they’ve held up great over the last few years since we began ice fishing.

Can’t go wrong with either. I don’t personally have any experience with the Okuma Ceymar but it seems to have great reviews. I have Shimano Sienna’s on some rods and I’ve been happy with them. They’re a popular choice for many. I tried a Pflueger Trion on my Bullwhip this past weekend and really like it as well.
