Don’t cross Rainy off your list. I was talking to the guy at Ice Cave fish houses. I told him I was from I-Falls and wanted to come take a look at his houses. He mentioned Chris Grandrud at Rainydaze Guide Service had a bunch of them, with another on order. What I took from that was that Chris is ramping up ice fishing on Rainy. If you need a guide give him a call.

One thing about Rainy…..lots of current so if you go follow established tracks don’t go running around.

We have 4″ of snow and they are talking we could get another 6″ in the next day or two so snowmobiling will also be ramping up!

Chris Granrud, runs a top notch guiding service out of International Falls.
He’s a tremendous wealth of knowledge, very humble down to earth human being & an amazing asset to the fishing industry.
Pretty sad deal that there was a falling out on here with him years back.
He wrote some very informational pieces for us all.

Business decision. All these guys make them. It’s turned out very well for him. Last I heard he had 10 guides on his staff.

Not a fan of Granrud’s guiding. Went on three separate trips. The two crappie ice fishing trips took us to community holes on Kab in which we didn’t move the entire 8-hr day (both times!). He seemed more keen on selling his line of rods than getting us on active fish. The open water trip he forgot our reservation. We learned some things, which was nice, but didn’t slaughter them by any stretch and was not worth the cost.

Dutch do you have a snowmobile? I’ve always felt like that would be a blast to fish Rainy in the winter, and I plan to in one of the next couple winters. Our annual trip in the summer is one of the highlights of the year. I’ll let you know next summer and maybe we can hop in the boat the day before we leave on the Houseboat.

No snowmobile. Up until 3 days ago we really had no snow. Having just retired and moving up here I’m struggling with things to do. Snowmobiling is on my list but geez them things are a lot more expensive than I thought. It seems every add I look at for used the guy states it was just rebuilt, hardly ever raced ect, ect. Doesn’t instill a bunch of confidence in me to buy used.

Anyway, snowmobiling is a possibility. Ice fishing is a possibility. Both are things I’ve not done so I would be gearing up from zero in both cases. We will see how things go. grin

By all means look me up when you are coming up. I’ll take you around on the boat. I don’t catch fish but can show you around. smile

I won’t comment on how he runs his business. Thats his gig. I just tossed the info out here in the event somebody was interested in fishing the area.
