Need to find gloves for the upcoming “Freeze your bASS off” Swimbait shore fishing (Mississippi River) in Montacello next Saturday. This is a Smallmouth Swimbait tourney.
Need some super warm gloves that I can work a baitcaster with. We’ll be wading the river.

I’ve been experimenting with different gloves that you can actually work a reel with for years. I probably have 25 pairs and I really haven’t found a great option.

Best bet for me are neoprene gloves…Clam makes a pretty good pair that I’ve gotten at Scheels. They need to fit snug. The problem still remains that your hands get wet when you take them off…then the inside of the gloves are wet. So, I get mechanics latex gloves and wear them underneath. They are thick and don’t tear easily. I order them from amazon or go to Northern Tool. That keeps the wind and water off my skin. Once my hands get wet and it’s really cold I can’t ever seem to get them warm again.

I also throw a couple heat packs in my pockets so if I need to keep the gloves off for a bit I can throw a hand in my pocket and keep it relatively warm.

I wear fingerless wool gloves, I buy alpaca wool ones on ebay for 4 bucks a pair. They are very similar to fish monkeys. And then I wear them under my striker apex gloves or if it’s really cold I use moose hide choppers. I find gloves to be very hard to fish in. I’ve tried so many. But the striker apex are smaller bulk and more warmth then most the others I’ve tried.

I’m not a fan of neoprene. I find that it’s too constricting which restricts blood flow which in turn makes my hands cold. I guess my fingers must be too fat…

I had to try a couple different types. Some are really bulky and tight.

I prefer fingerless too like BC. Bought and have been pleased with my Kastking Bully Wooly so far. They’re around $20.

I have fish monkey wool fingerless but have been using strikers neoprene ones right now and have been pretty impressed actually . You’d have to cut off the thumb though to run a bait caster . Best bet is keep your core warm. If you’re moving alot wading you’ll probably be alright with fingerless

Blackfish arrid are the best ones ive found. Striker stealths are a close second. I put electric hand warmers under my gloves in my palm. It takes some getting used to but definitely keeps u out there longer. Be careful w the heat setting on electric warmers. Med/high setting almost feel like they could burn you.

Cheap jersey gloves, bring a few pairs to swap out. I’ve bought alot of gloves trying to find the right ones.

Wool is second but hooks always tend to find em.

Showa 282 – 100% waterproof and very dexterous. They have a cult like following in ice climbing

Showa 460 – 100% waterproof and very warm, but not as dexterous. It’s what cold weather commercial fisherman use

With a baitcater in cold weather anything less that 100% waterproof is going to be miserable. I’d use a spinning reel if at all possible

Sorry but any gloves or really most clothing made by the fishing brands is just not great. And majorly overpriced

I prefer fingerless gloves. I have a assortment of wool gloves and a few others but I like StrikeMaster® Five-Finger-Flip Mitt.

I do not consider my hands overly large but it seems that most gloves run a bit small. What I find listed as XL seem to be tight. Some offer XXL but not very common. What the heck do guys do with big/thick hands?

I tried both Striker and Arid, my hands were colder with them on than off I think. Toooo snug. Arid large and xl are the same but xl has longer fingers. I would keep looking, two of the worst purchases I’ve ever made. I’m back to good old cheap Jersey gloves and take a couple extra pair.

    I wear fingerless wool gloves

Ditto. Could also try the full finger version. Never thought of the latex glove underneath. That sounds intriguing. My experience with wool is that it dries quicker than other options. Could have a few pair with.

Latex gloves underneath are a game changer.

Latex gloves as a base layer sounds interesting, but latex doesn’t breath, so don’t your hands end up sweating?

My thoughts exactly. I wear them for dirty jobs at work and my hands sweat like crazy. I can’t see how that would work in the cold

I wear fingerless wool gloves and have heavy wool/ leather choppers for when it’s really cold.
