Alright, I’m an ice fishing newb. I’m looking into buying sonar. I’m looking at the lowrance hook2 ice machine, is it good? One more question, to me, the little history thing where it shows where your jig has been is stupid, on the hook 2 can you get a basic sonar? Where it shows live what is happening all around you under the ice?

Yeah, get a Vex, you don’t even need to cut a hole, just put some liquid down and place the transducer on the wet spot (lol that sounds funny) and you can read depth…

I have a Lowrance Hook5. The biggest plus in a shack with it is that it’s quiet! I never really use the flasher mode anymore, use the scope like said above. Not sure if the hook2’s have this, but would hope so. Having the history does help with seeing how fast they came up or if you turn away you can see that a fish was there. That happens more than one would think. Also I think it is easier to see fish hugging the bottom, you can see the bottom grow a bit since you have the history.

The big negative is that it does get some interference when next to others. I am able to fish thru it, but it can be annoying at times. Also, when really cold outside, I have had it slow down or delay a time or two. That hasn’t happened very often though. Overall I like it and have gotten over not looking at a dial anymore and having a nice and quiet shack. grin
