Since the ice in southern Iowa will be gone within hours and probably gone for the season, 4 of us are looking for a trip north. We’ve done Okoboji before but have never been impressed and never have scratched out one limit between 4 of us all weekend.

We are looking for a good panfish bite, walleye would be great but not required. Cabin nearby with separate beds and running water and kitchen. Ideally less than 6 hr drive.

Any thoughts?? Contemplating Clear Lake but also some where in MN. But none of us are familiar with MN fishing. HELP!!

I would give Okoboji another try. I was there Friday and the big gills were on fire. Spirit lake would be a great place to look also. Then you have east okoboji for a great mix bag.

As for MN Willmar area would be a fun one. Many of the shallow lakes in southern mn had a winter kill in 2013. theses lake a loaded with eyes right now.

I would head further west to the Waubay area in South Dakota. Lots of excellent choices and variety of species.
