Ice Fishing Bucket List

So, Andy Fiolka and I were having a conversation this afternoon that evolved into an ice fishing bucket list. A couple years back, I set a goal to fish at a minimum of 4-5 news lakes each winter and target a new species each year (which is a somewhat short list in the ice belt).

What are some of the lakes/location on your list?

I really want to go fish dogtooth tuna in Mataiva. If they can pull a sheet of ice in big enough for me to sit on, so be it….otherwise a boat will do.

Anyone know a guy that can hook us up? -14.914072, -148.656536

    Erie, Winnipeg, Superior.
I was looking at a map; Winnipeg is bigger than Erie. Surprised me.

Erie, fly in (or drive in) to remote canada, bwca (I haven’t been since I was a teenager), and I think it would be cool to hike into some remote mountain lake or stream in colorado

I’d like to go out to SD and others western mid west states and fish a bunch of different bodies of water. I’d like it just to fish much different scenery then here in the east.

They are close, but Erie is still bigger actually.

Fort Peck, MT would be pretty fun… along with Devils Lake, Winnipeg, Erie, and LOTW. I would also like to do a boundary waters winter camping expedition some time. Not for monsters but just the experience

Superior with my uncle from WI who was out there 20 miles on the ice last year after those tank lakers. That is a whole different beast than what I’m used to. Also, late ice pike on LOTW.

I’m slowly whittling away at my bucket list and it’s getting smaller each winter. Heading to Erie for the weekend which takes care of another item.

One of my overall bucket list items is to get back into tournament fishing on a more regular basis, specifically open water. At some point I’d like to find a reliable partner and fish an entire MWC season. That would be a blast in my book.

Please fill us in after the trip… I’m thinking there are a number of us that have this as one we would like to try and “check off” our list yet this year.

The IDO episode showed it may not be as scary getting out there in the right conditions as often thought.

I fish lots of tip ups for northerns, and we get plenty of fish in the mid-30″ class, but I’d love to go to LOTW and fish true trophies late ice. Checking off whitefish this weekend!
