you can start and end with an LX-5 IMO, but if you want a lower priced model an LX -1 and LX-3 are good units too

i really debated the lx6 but ultimately went with a 7 for the purpose of having a bigger screen and i have not regretted it 1 bit!!

When I got my LX6, the price was substantially less than the LX7 (it was a late season sale). I have no regrets going with the LX6

You could pick up a gently used ice 55 for $300. The digital readout and soft case are a bonus. Mine going strong after 6 years.

Flashers are a one trick pony stone age tool. 2d will be the new wave.

I have a LX6 and like it very much. If you’re a hole hopper the 6 would be ideal.

Lx6 is a nice portable. My lx5 is going on 15 years old. Still a great machine. The lx6 is great if you continue to play / learn the settings. Lx5 more or less is plug and go.

Also since you specifically asked about Marcum products I hope you receive more good info. I’m sure someone can open a Marcum bashing thread some where else with the understanding they all help you catch more fish

LX5 6 or 7.I use the old LX5 and a LX7 and love both. Get a 5 if you want to have minimum setup and awesome performance and a 6 or 7 if you want more techie stuff.

I got a VX-1i 3 seasons ago and it’s been my best ice fishing pusrchase to date. Unfortunately, it’s been discontinued due to the new M Series (brushless motor). The VX-1i, at the time, was Marcum’s cheapest model for ~$300. Any Marcum should do just fine, it pretty much comes down to budget and availability.

I have the LX7 and Showdown single beam, and love both of them. Just more bells and whistles with the LX series.
