There are a few people hitting Frontenac near the landing. How the fishing is I can’t say. Trailer Point in Lake City had nobody on it yesterday morning but then most all of the old favorite spots on Pepin from years ago have fallen by the wayside since the reactors went active. The decline in fish production has been steady from year to year. When the reactors are shut down for service work or repairs, warm water discharge is reduced and the ice fishing can pick up nicely in some of the old haunts.
Marinas along Pepin’s shoreline can have some panfish action under the ice, but if a solid bite fires up the better fish seem to get weeded out in a hurry leaving mostly smaller fish….kind of like the community holes in the backwaters.
Pepin had a really dynamite winter fishery right up until those reactors went on line and then things went to pot. I have fished Pepin since the 1960’s and I have seen the decline to the winter fishing. I could care less about what the dnr says about the relationship between those reactors and winter fishing is, when the reactors began discharging warm water, the winter fishery on Pepin went in the tank.
