Ice Conditions in the metro

ive heard tell that buffalo has 6 inches. Also heard that some smaller lakes in the west metro have 3-4 inches and people are out. I went out today ato try and see about the conditions but the lakes looked sketchy and i didnt see anyone out there nor any foot traffic but this information was given to me by the local bait shop. Anyone else doing any fishing in the metro?

I made it out yesterday evening on a small backwater and had 4-5″ where I was at.

I plan on heading up to rush in the morning. I can let you know what I find up there.

I was fishing on 2″ of ice with 1″ of water on top yesterday….Probably the worst area I could have fished. Current present.

I saw about 2 inches yesterday. I didnt measure so it could have been less.
One good wack or two drop wacks of the spud would go through. I almost didnt venture out.
Once I blazed a trail I felt confident. Water would jiggle when you walked by hole. I didnt want to fall down hard!

I wonder how Sundays precip will affect ice integrity in metro area.

I posted over in the Trip Swap forum looking for a partner for Friday. Reading this I’m not so sure waiting another week or two isn’t a better plan. Usually I’m really patient but have the bug real bad this year

I don’t have anything to measure but a solid 4-5 hits with the spudbar. Looks to be about 5″ on rush were I am sitting now.

Thats what I was thinking…

Clearly Wild Beaver is full of insightful things to say. Don’t think the wild beaver gets out on the ice much.

I checked last night on a metro lake and found open water where I planned to fish this weekend. It was froze over last Friday, but the winds the last few days have destroyed the ice.

I was in brainerd yesterday as well and I saw 4-5 portables out on a couple lakes.
