A guy I know dropped his snowmobile through Forest Lake yesterday afternoon. He found some 2.5″ thick ice 50 yards from shore on First lake in about 4 ft of water. A sxs went down the other day as well on Second Lake. My kid was on Green Lake in Chisago today and had only 4″ where he was fishing.
You still need to use some caution out there…

On dec 26th my friend and I went fishing on Altoona lake, in altoona wi. The ice was 6-8″. Safe enough for a sled or quad. I was hoping to get a mid-afternoon crappie bite. We got some action, few perch and one little musky. All released. We fished a flat 13-16′ deep, straight for south boatlanding. All of our fish we pulled off the bottom.

I went out on whale tail in minnetrista. Caught a lot of northern on shiners in about 7 to 9 ft of water as well as this bass my son got, 5 inches of good ice with 3 inches of frozen slush on top. I walked out and was able to fish a bunch of spots for crappies. There were wheelers out there too.

Rochester area 3-6 is what i been seeing. Further from shore = less so be careful!
Got to love the early ice as you can actually get a few bass on light gear. Here’s my first of the season.

Lots of 4 wheelers, side by sides, and snowmobiles on Eagle by Big Lake. About 8-9 inches of ice. Couple of skid houses out

Any update on the conditions around the metro area? Are people are driving?

Hutchinson area lakes vary from 6.5 to 14.5 inches. Same lake that had 6.5 had 12.5 inches about 40 yards away.

Wow. Such a big variance. This week should really firm things up though. Thanks for the update!
