As I read through reviews of cleats some say certain brands don’t last a day or season? Any recommendations ?

Kahtoola Microspikes.
Don’t cut them with your auger and they’ll last a long time.
Don’t’ burn them off with your heater and they’ll last a long time.I bought a pair probably 8+ years ago. Granted i don’t’ use them much anymore, but i sure did a lot back then. I wear size 16 boots (Was a stretch to make them work), and if i recall correctly, a few years ago they came out with an XL size, so i got some of those. Probably only worn a few times since i really don’t ice fish anymore.
WHy i like.
Excellent traction. Do not clog with snow. Fairly easy on/off – depends on if you can reach over and grab your toes or if that big belly gets in the way – if that is the case, you can put them on your boots before putting on your boots. I often left them on my boots. They’ll gouge anything you walk on – so cautious of that.
December 10, 2020 at 10:32 am #1996000I use the everyday pro by a company called Due North. Bought them at a gas station near lake vermilion in a pinch one day a fw years ago and they have held up incredibly well. They came with extra spikes in case you lose or break one. Haven’t had to replace any of mine yet. I do pop them off my boots before walking on blacktop or concrete though so that probably helps. They were cheap too I think $25 and that was convenience store pricing
December 10, 2020 at 10:45 am #1996006Back 12+ years ago I bought a pair of Kahtoola Microspikes and still use them today. They are well made and will punch holes into concrete. I am not sure how well the copycat cleats will hold up.
December 10, 2020 at 11:02 am #1996013X3 Microspikes.
Easy on and off, takes up little space in a bag/bucket, grips like velcro.
KongPosts: 63December 10, 2020 at 11:18 am #1996024Kahtoola Microspikes. I could run an football drag route on the ice wearing my Kahtoola’s. crazy good traction. Also, I have never lost one off my boots. the cheap ones I used to have would fall off my boots.
December 10, 2020 at 11:28 am #1996030I have a set of Yaktrax that I really like. I haven’t had any issues with them in the 4 yrs I’ve owned them. They also fit nice on my big Baffin boots.
December 10, 2020 at 12:07 pm #1996065Thanks all for the quick replies. Order a pair for my son in law and grandson. Now I need to find a lithium battery to run a Helix 10 on the ice.

Red EyePosts: 947December 10, 2020 at 12:45 pm #1996080How are the Microspikes for standing on all day? My legs get sore with my current ones.
December 10, 2020 at 12:48 pm #1996081I’ve been using the Yaktrax diamond grip ones the past few seasons and have been happy with them. Never slip like the cheaper “coil” style ones and also aren’t so aggressive that they tear up your ATV or truck if you need to hop in for a quick relocation. This being the main reason I haven’t tried something like the Microspikes yet.
December 10, 2020 at 1:06 pm #1996088I had the opposite reaction to Yaktrax. They seemed to slip on the ice because those springs didn’t dig into ice like spikes do but I do see they make different models now. The microspikes look interesting, will they stay on size 12 Muck boots? Kind of spendy.

I haven’t noticed any discomfort, I’ll even wear over tennis shoes. But, obviously there’s going be something between your shoe and the ground so they’re felt. More comfortable to wear on ice than cement- cuz they bite into ice, relieving some of that sensation of standing on a pebble.
Bluegill89Posts: 138December 10, 2020 at 2:10 pm #1996109Those micro spikes hurt my feet after an all day outing so I resorted back to the cheap ones for now. Untill I try the yaktraks or something.
I wasn’t sure if its cause I wear pull on rubber boots but my feet felt like I was standing on rocks all day with no shoes onbrewerybuilderPosts: 155Rod BentPosts: 360December 10, 2020 at 5:32 pm #1996182I have had LL Bean’s Streamside cleats with boa for a couple years. Really nice. They’re made for fly fishing but great for ice.
December 10, 2020 at 5:51 pm #1996195I like and have been using the Micro Spikes but have been looking at trying the Korker ice cleats sometime to see if there is a big difference between the two brands.
olas88Posts: 296December 10, 2020 at 9:00 pm #1996243I have a pair of size 11 oversize Sorels, would a large of the Kahtoola Micro Spikes fit over those or should I go the XL route?
gonehuntingPosts: 535December 10, 2020 at 9:05 pm #1996248YakTrak Diamonds – durable, traction and won’t tear the carpet in your buddies Fishhouse. Easy on/easy off.
December 11, 2020 at 6:01 am #1996275I’ve been using the Kahtoola Microspikes for a pile of years now… I have both hips and my left knee replaced… there is no way I need to take a spill on the ice.. these work awesome for moving around, but especially for getting down onto the ice and then back up again… having the cleats/spikes near the toe is the ticket !!!
Easy on easy off too makes them very user friendly for my joint limitations…

I replaced my Sorels with Baffin boots. The Baffins are quite a bit bulkier and need a larger size of cleats.
Michael JohnsonPosts: 18December 11, 2020 at 7:25 am #1996287I’ve had many over the years and after buying Kahtoola microspikes I’ll never buy and others. I’ve had zero problems with them. I’ve only had them 3 years but so far they are still in great shape.
December 11, 2020 at 10:03 am #1996348It all depends on your boot as far as feeling the microspikes. Some boots or shoes it feels like I am standing on rocks. Other footwear I don’t feel them. The 3/8” spike will keep your feet off the ice and warmer.

The XL Micro Spikes did not fit over my size 13 Alphaburly 1600. They will do fine on my hiking boots. I did find that the XL Korkers worked fine. Will let you know how they hold up. Seems like one of those years where a guy is really going to need them!

December 21, 2020 at 10:50 am #1999145Ice Trekkers, I work on Alaska’s North Slope Oilfield, Ice Roads, we use these, cant go outside without them on. I have pairs at home that I use ice fishing, they will last for years, as long as you take care of them, as in don’t wear them on grating, don’t stomp down on sharp objects…
To each their own though, there are other brands, but I prefer these. I have brought home pairs for family.
December 21, 2020 at 10:55 am #1999147I wear a size 13, Ice trekker XL work fine on regular size 13 boots, on my size 13 Bunny boots I wear a pair of XXl.
My 14 year (size 5) old daughter small feet she wears small,
My 17 year old daughter wears Medium, Wife (size 7 or 8) is Medium
Dad has size 11, He wear Large, but with his pack boots he wears the XLmaddoggPosts: 414December 21, 2020 at 11:25 am #1999157I stud the bottom of my boots with short ATV screws this works good for me. When there is snow on slick ice I use Kahtoola microspikes.
Mike TichyPosts: 4December 21, 2020 at 5:44 pm #1999308I have the Korkers and have been really happy. I wear the Muck Boot Arctic pro and they have tremendous grip and fit my boots really well. On glare ice they are comfortable. Easy to put on and take off.
