Ice Castle Spear Hole

I have a 2016 8×16 Mille Lacs Ice Castle with 8 holes. Anyone put a spear hole in theirs?

I was thinking in the back but I have a toy hauler door and usually bring my snowmobile with. I also considered the middle but it’s difficult to get a decent size hole and work around the frame.

Any tips/ideas/suggestions? And yes I built the canoe in the picture and it fit perfectly in the castle 😁

No clue on the spear hole, I think I have seen them towards the back on the rare occasion I have seen one. Sweet build on the canoe though!

Thanks John! That’s where I’ve seen them too. I’m curious how beefy of a cover I need to make to support the snowmobile. It’s a 2-up 4 stroke Yamaha and weights a TON. As I continue to plan and eventually install one I’ll try updating this thread…

I’d talk with Ice Castle and see what their recommendations are. Not sure what the structure looks like under the floor, but cutting that much out would need some decent bracing to make up for the loss and to support the door. Especially in a toy hauler with all that weight sitting there.

Thanks guys! I will prob get under the castle this weekend and plan a location. Then call Ice Castle and see what they say. Will probably give Smokey Hills Outdoor Store in Park Rapids, Mn a call. They’ve helped me with projects before.

If I build another spear house I should put that catch cover in it! Looks clean and easy to use. Picture is one I built and sold last year. Need to make adjustments though because it was way too heavy.

Legend icehouses make a nice spearhole in their shacks.

My friend ordered a 17′ foot toyhauler with a spearhole in the back.
