What are you guy’s favorite lures/baits for trout? I like little spinners and the ole fashioned worm in there but would like to use some other things as well now.

A good old fashion crawler is always fun…but for pure enjoyment i would have to jay twitching a rapala across a run that dumps into a large pool or eddy area…followed by a spinner then jig. I am thinking about getting into fly fishing soon if i can find the time to get into it.

I would also like to ask what you catch most of your bigger trout on?

    Q1: Dynamite.

    Q2: More of the same.

I heard that recently, the ‘big fish’ have been taken using these:

Jeff, for bigger trout I use No. 9 Rapalas alot as well as the Super and Big Bow Spinners. I used to think lures like these were to big for trout but the bigger trout won’t think twice about tackling the bigger lures, in fact I think their more likely to hit bigger lures than smaller ones. Another lure I’ve had alot of luck on are the Rebel Wee Craws in Stream Crawfish color.

if your fishing for bigger fish, i don’t think much beats a little chartruse jointed rapala. they work excelent for the larger browns and rainbows lurking in the streams .

there’s nothing more exciting then watching a dandy brown hit your dry fly right on the surface though. especialy when it’s a home tied fly.

Big Bows and Super bows have been working fantastic for me this year. On cludy days, clear water I have had best luck on copper or gold. In sunny days or murky water, silver or silver/gold has been great. Sunday I caught and released eleven and only one of these was under 14″.

This time of year rapalas shine as bright as any other. But if your a spin fishermen, don’t forget jigs. I love black maribou crappie jigs. Plastics also can be good.

I agree with the spinners and rapala’s. I think Ive caught most of my trout on a panther martin spinner. Tough to beat. The only bad thing is the hooks suck on them, Ive broke them a lot! IMO panter martins just seem to spin better then any other spinner.

I do use the occasional spinner or crawler. I think I do this just to keep myself from becomming one of those purists who think everyone not using flies for trout is below them and not worthy. Hate that attitude. I must say though that Fly Fishing is my favorite means of catching trout. Dry Fly fishing is the best. If they are rising for drys I can catch em. My biggest trout have come after dark in Central Wisconsin using the Hex (a super big mayfly that hatches after dark).

I like all of those baits, but if trout are not biting anything, I have a secret corn recipe that even the most finicky trout can not resist (in any river, creek or pond system).

I know what most of you are thinking, so please be gentle with the negative comments.

I really!! like the response to the pursist..thankyou..and don’t become one of them…for bigg trout it’s hard to knock a larger rapala….size dependent on the stream fished…but the last few years ..I’ve downsized to a very small hook..bb..or smaller sized sinker…and…a ..single …wax worm…fished in the right locations …with the right presentation….ie..hitting the feeding lanes when there active ..IS JUST DEADLY……and really fun …as you can see the “take” and the fight is unbelivable on that light of tackle…..

my favorite is a no. 5 or even smaller rapala, brighter colors also. they may not be the best for the monsters but can catch a lot of trout. or just go for the crawlers and worms.

i have a little thing i get from the trout hat. thoes little pelits and mix thoes with some valvita cheese always works for me but rember to make a kind of power with the pelits and let the whole mess set in a cool place for a day and put it on a small trubble hook

Ditto the spinners, P/M’s and roostertails. I’d be lost on the stream without little tube jigs, pitch ’em, and twitch ’em like it’s goin’ out of style!

I’ll vote for the wax worms on small hook 12-14 and a split shot below a small Thill pencil type bobber and an ultra lite setup.
