Smashed my pb gill last Friday in the SW metro. I don’t think I even know what my PB was before this but it smashed whatever it was. I’ve never seen a bluegill this big in person. It was pretty awesome. I measured it on my rod because I didn’t have a tape with me so I can’t say it’s official but I measured my rod when I got home and it was just under 10 1/4. Just an absolute beautiful fish that I never thought I’d see in the metro.

Congrats! Reeling that in through the ice probably felt like riding a bull!
January 18, 2021 at 1:57 pm #2007142Great fish. Those are definitely getting harder to come by these days. Congratulations.
January 18, 2021 at 2:37 pm #2007157Beautiful fish. Lots of them left out there . They are so fun to catch and see. Especially near home

Who says that ?
January 18, 2021 at 5:07 pm #2007207There’s been a number of individuals on here that have openly posted that. They’re primarily the same people that refer to people living in an urban area as cidiots.

I’m one of them when it comes to bluegill. The title of this thread stems from my comment in a previous thread that I might not ever catch a ten inch gill in the cities. My opinion really hasn’t changed much even after this fish. Big gills are getting harder and harder to find in the cities.

Harder to come by everywhere that is easily accessible. Word of a hot panfish bite can decimate a lake quickly.
Did you mention where you caught this?

Not a word.
January 19, 2021 at 9:35 am #2007364Did you catch several other decent ones?
I got a few 8 inchers but not another one in that class. It was in shallow water also. 5 ft with the gill hitting my lure about 2 ft off the bottom.

I found my gills this weekend in 6ft of water. Many were caught around the 4ft mark. North of metro. Took two outings to get enough keepers for a meal. My large fluke fish was 8.5. All others under 8. Very cool fish you got!
Here’s my big one from the weekend. Little different setting……..lol

January 19, 2021 at 10:18 am #2007387The one I posted above was 10.5, catch lots in the area near 10. Buddy pulled a 11.5 out that is being turned in to a replica. Most our panfish come from 8 ft and less.
The angle of your first pic makes it look like its 14 inches long and 10 tall lol.
