I Thought I’ve seen It All

A pet peeve of mine is when people dump their trash at boat ramps, or leave piles of dead and rotting fish for others to enjoy as they load/unload their boats. I’ve seen 5 gallon buckets of hard concrete, water softners, tv’s, washers, ect., dumped at public access ramps. I thought I’ve seen it all until this. Yup, someone actually dumped their boat. I’m almost speechless. This boat is at a Vermillion River access near Hastings. Slim odds, but if anyone has any info for law enforcement, give em a call. Unreal….

Are the numbers scratched off or just painted over? Tough to tell from the pic. If they were literally dumb enough to leave registration numbers on the boat that would be something… what am I saying, they dumped a boat at a landing, of course they were that dumb.

Looks like the numbers were ground off with a power tool.

Been looking for that….lost it on 169 this summer and could never track it down. Sure made it a long way from there.

It doesn’t matter if the numbers were ground off. Boat manufacturers hide a tag inside the boat with the serial # on it when they manufacture it for this reason and for reclaiming stolen boats. I know where Lund/Crestliner puts there’s. It would require some “surgery” to get at it though. It shouldn’t be too hard to chase down the serial # thru the DNR once it is found.

^ That’s what I was thinking. It’s possible the Hull Identification Number was ground off too, but it’s worth a check and see. Normally there is more then one HID. One on the outside of the STBD transom and one that’s well, hidden.

The other avenue would be for the DNR to do a search by brand and make. I have a feeling there aren’t too many of them around…assuming it was registered in MN.

Either way, please let enforcement know.

I let the DNR know. I was going to take a look around but visions of dead bodies and/or needles stared freaking me out.

Ditto about the hull ID tag and second hidden location. The DNR boys will know exactly where it will be located within the hull.

Lost in a storm or flood is one thing. Intentionally dumped on public land deserves a stiff fine.

Someone earlier this year dropped a boat off in a field along the MN river by my house. Guessing they were hoping for the spring flood to take it away. That never happened but it did go away after about a month dont know where it went. My biggest concern was if the river got high enough to take it, it would be seen by Jordan or Carver empty and the search would be on.

Some people just don’t know how to dispose of their boat properly.

Well, the boat is still there. Someone sprayed their opinion on the boat along with a registration tab stuck on the windshield. Not sure about the tab, but it could be legit. If anyone else wants to call the DNR so see if they are trying to figure out who did this, please give it a go…

Both Hastings/DCSO and the CO out of Hasting were aware of the boat and have taken care/are taking care of it. I believe it has been removed.
    Thanks
