    Fish pool 11
Have 17 ft aluminum bass boat with transom mount 55 lb minn kota with foot pedal.
Looking to upgrade to an I pilot 80 lb, but before I do that I was wondering if you can set it for a slow drift, where the bow is pointed up river, but you are actually slowly going down river, bouncing your jig or bait as you go.
Kinda going backwards, but with motor pointed forward ?
Is this even possible with the I pilot ?
I can do this with my 55, but with normal water flows, any type of higher water is a struggle for it, and me.
    ?
    Thanks

Operational wise, it’ll work the same as your current motor but with added features, so if it was possible before, it’ll be possible with ipilot.

With ipilot, you have a directional setting so if your drifting down a straightaway, you can set your trolling motor straight and you could use it to slow your drift.

A drift sock might be an option but I get it would be a lot more work, espically if you have lots of turns on the river.

I personal am not on par with most people here saying bigger is always better, I think sizing approapratly has more advantages. 16’ and under there is no need for anything larger then 55lbs…for inland LAKES. 17-18’ is the gray area pending boat weight but since you mention RIVER use, you might be better with 80lbs for your application. Just remember it comes with WAY more cost not in just the motor but batteries, chargers, and maintenance…not to mention weight espically if all batteries are in the stern.

But you’ll absolutely love the ipilot! Go get er!

I drift backwards down river and leave my trolling motor on 1/2-1 usually and use the autopilot feature to keep the bow pointed upriver with out frequent corrections.
