I need a rod to pair with my new reel

My grandmother gave me a 13 Fishing Freefall and I want to get a new rod to pair it with. I know this thing’s most suited for light weight jigs in shallow water (I know people have mixed feelings on that reel but lets try and keep the “sell it and get something else comments to a minimum. It was an awesome, thoughtful gift! hahaha). I’ve never had a noodle rod before and honestly have been more drawn to a 35 inch medium/Light rod rather then an ultra light rod because I mainly perch fish, but could also hook into some decent pike where I fish. Would that rod pair with my new reel? I’m also going to be going after more trout this year. I’m just a little concerned about line capacity of the new reel for the deeper water and spunkier fish.

Side question, Why don’t more ice rods come with a reel seat? I know it ads to the cost, but is that the only reason they don’t? I’m really not a fan of taping it on, or using those bands. I prefer to store my rods without the reel on them. Kind of a habit from fly fishing…

    Thanks!

I know they mainly use the free fall for panfish because it eliminates line twist which is very beneficial when fishing sunfish. Haven’t heard much about people using them for larger fish. I’d put it on a power noodle. Spool it with some 4# and letter rip! Good luck
