I’ve never had any luck with Whopper Ploppers but all the hype made me go out Friday morning and give it a fair shot. I really wasn’t expecting much but I had a beautiful calm morning with just about perfect conditions. I made about twenty casts with nothing to show for it when I got to a main lake point and then it was on. Blow up after blowup. It was a blast. The quality of fish this lure caught that morning impressed me. I caught 5 bass in about an hour. It was only one morning but I think it earned a spot in my rotation next to my Spooks.

The whopper is a go to for me always. I have quite a few different size. It’s amazing when fishing my big one for muskies how many bass hit that thing. What color were u using. Those are some nice fish.

Looks like a lot of fun. Never heard of the whopper plopper before but don’t do much bass fishing but after watching this might have to give it a try.

Not the whopper popper brand but I do love top water prop baits. I don’t remember the brand on the one I just bought my son but he has put some nice fish in the boat with it. Now if he could just learn to share his lures with me.

I was using the Bone color. Heard that color is good for muskie as well. It’s pretty amazing the size baits bass will hit topwater.

I know that lake pretty well. Was that last Saturday? I’m probably in the background somewhere. We need to go fishing one of these days waytogo

Steve, that was Friday morning. I saw a couple guys on a boat using fly rods and was wondering if that may have been you. It’s been a good year for me out there. Definitely good to see after the past few years.

Ah, OK. Saturday was another of those days that was slow, they turned on and it was nuts for about half an hour, and then they quit again. Still very flat and calm Saturday morning which was nice after so many stormy windy weekend days this season. Nothing real big, best fish was about 18 inches. I was fishing shallower than you were and yes the weeds were kind of a pain.

I was lucky enough to get out a lot in between all those rains and storms we had a month ago and I had some of the best days I’ve had in a couple years out there because of it. Now that it’s evened out it is back to its temperamental ways. roll

I have a 90 and 110 size, in addition to the muskie size one that has been out for years. I’ve never had much luck with any of them. They are a well made quality lure, they just aren’t very effective.

If you want the same exact thing as the Whopper Plopper except 1/2 to 2/3 the cost – check out the Choppo.

I got a chance to pre-fish before it’s release date… same exact thing. Maybe the only exception is that the 90 on the Choppo doesn’t nose dive like the 90 Plopper does.

Finally nice to see some competition and price compression in the ever-escalating prices of tackle (ridiculous IMO)

I saw this too! Definitely going to give one a shot. Just hope the hooks are the same quality. Hopefully that’s not why they are cheaper.
